The Division 2 drags per se, but as we  worked my way up through the ranks and became acquainted with its various complexities, it became easier to continue playing. Weapons become more diverse and interesting as you unlock more and pursue different builds in tandem with your groups, and so on. My initial reservations about the D.C. setting faded as more unique missions appeared, particularly some of the more impressive set pieces, such as the Lincoln Memorial and the Air and Space Museum, complete with a planetarium showdown.

On paper, The Division 2’s gritty veneer isn’t the most glamorous thing out there, but the complex map design shines while you and the AI try to outwit each other tactically. If a lack of a compelling story is a deal breaker for you, there are plenty of other options available. But, as someone who has played nearly every shooter on the market, we was sucked in by how tightly wound The Division 2 is. Almost every weapon is satisfying to use, and the skills (which range from drones to self-firing turrets to revive grenades) are just wacky enough to provide some enjoyable moment-to-moment gameplay.

There were more “last-second saves” than I could count during my travels, as well as many harrowing moments during some intense firefights. The enemy AI is reactive and responsive, frequently moving to outflank and rip your team to shreds.
