Best Cheap Canon Cameras List
In general, the more advanced you are and the more functions you need, the more you would expect to pay for your camera. However, there are fantastic Canon deals – and here you will find the best. From compacts to mirrorless cameras and DSLRs, these are the best deals for our favorite cheap Canon cameras.
Canon EOS Rebel SL3
DSLR comes with a touchscreen and 4K video
- Type: DSLR
- Sensor: APS-C
- Megapixels: 24.2MP
- Lens mount: Canon EF-S
- Screen: 3in vari-angle touchscreen, 1,040,000 dots
- Max burst speed: 5fps
- Max video resolution: 4K
- User level: Beginner
Canon makes a couple of cheaper DSLRs than this, most notably the 18-megapixel EOS 4000D and the 24-megapixel EOS 2000D, but we believe these sacrifice too much in terms of features and build quality and recommend paying just a bit more for the EOS Rebel SL3 DSLR (sold in Europe as the EOS 250D). Why? Because it’s equipped with a vari-angle rear touchscreen and a sensor with Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, so autofocus in live view is very fast.
We also love that you can start with a simple guided user interface if you are still learning, and then switch to the default setting when you are more confident and want more control. The Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D is a replacement for Canon’s older Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D and adds 4K video and better live view autofocus. This is a DSLR that can beat mirrorless cameras at their own game!

Canon Rebel T7
A cheap Canon DSLR for beginners
- Type: DSLR
- Sensor: APS-C
- Megapixels: 24.1MP
- Lens mount: Canon EF-S
- Screen: 3in fixed, 920k dots
- Viewfinder: Optical
- Continuous shooting: 3fps
- Videos: Full HD (1080p)
- Weight: 475g
This is Canon’s second cheapest entry-level DSLR, and while it is a simple camera, it will do just fine for a student or a beginner who doesn’t have a lot of money and just wants to get started. The camera has a sensor of 24 megapixels, which is still pretty good for a camera with an APS-C sensor, although this model does not have Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, so if you use the rear screen to compose your shots, the autofocus will be a slower contrast-based system.
This camera also does not shoot 4K video and does not have a variangle screen, so if you can afford the extras, we recommend switching to the Rebel SL3/EOS 250D. This camera is only available with body, but if you don’t have a Canon lens, you’re better off buying it with the 18-55mm IS II lens bundle.

Canon EOS 6D Mark II
An affordable entry into full frame photography
- Type: DSLR
- Sensor: Full frame
- Megapixels: 26.2MP
- Lens mount: Canon EF
- Screen: 3.2in touch, pivot 1,040,000 dots
- Viewfinder: Pentaprism
- Max burst speed: 6.5fps
- Max video resolution: Full HD (1080p)
- User level: Enthusiast
The EOS 6D II is Canon’s cheapest full-frame DSLR and the next step after the EOS 90D. It may be affordable, but it is far from simple. The advantage of a full-frame sensor is that the image quality is superior, partly because you get more megapixels, and partly because the pixels (photo sites) are larger and can capture more light. The 26-megapixel sensor in the 6D II offers a useful advantage over 24-megapixel cameras, it has a powerful 45-point AF system for shooting with the viewfinder and Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF for live view photography, and it has a decent 6.5 fps continuous shooting speed.
What we really love is the streamlined controls and operating layout and the fully hinged rear screen. It’s expensive compared to smaller APS-C DSLRs, but recent price drops make the EOS 6D Mark II a real bargain for anyone looking to make the move into full-frame photography.

Canon EOS Rebel SL2
This cheap Canon DSLR punches well above its weight
- Type: DSLR
- Sensor: APS-C
- Megapixels: 24.2MP
- Lens mount: Canon EF-S
- Screen: 3in vari-angle touchscreen, 1,04million dots
- Continuous shooting: 5fps
- Autofocus: 9-point AF
- Video: Full HD
- Weight: 453g
The EOS Rebel SL2 is a very capable, super-compact DSLR with an entry-level that is easy to use and performs excellently. In fact, it is a much better camera than its predecessor, the EOS 100D, and just a little bigger. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF system in the live image is excellent, while the refined touchscreen and the variable angle image all contribute to the ease of use. The lack of 4K video is disappointing, but if you are looking for a reliable performing camera that is well supported by a wide range of lenses and accessories, the EOS Rebel SL2 is one of the best cheap canon cameras that you can buy.

Canon EOS M50
The mirrorless EOS M50 packs a lot of tech into its compact body
- Type: Mirrorless
- Sensor: APS-C
- Megapixels: 24.1MP
- Lens mount: Canon EF-M
- Screen: 3in vari-angle touchscreen, 1,04million dots
- Burst shooting: 10fps
- Autofocus: 143-point AF
- Video: 4K
- Weight: 390g
The EOS M50 comes with a built-in viewfinder and a lot of new technology from Canon, all packed in a compact housing, which means it has an excellent price/quality ratio. It is a very sympathetic camera that is easy to use when you are just starting out but also offers a full degree of manual control for those who want to get creative.
The image quality is great, although the receding EF-M 15-45 mm f / 3.5-6.3 IS STM is a bit tricky to use, and the 4K video mode has some unexpected limitations. That said, in terms of features-to-price, the EOS M50 has been scrapped for other mirrorless cameras. Where else do you get a 24MP APS-C mirrorless camera with a viewfinder for this price?

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II
A pleasing, premium compact camera
- Type: Compact
- Sensor: 1in
- Megapixels: 20.1MP
- Lens: 24-100mm f/1.8-f/2.8
- Viewfinder: None
- Screen: 3in touchscreen, 1,04million dots
- Viewfinder: No
- Video: Full HD
- Weight: 319g
The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II is a fast, capable, premium compact that captures sharp, detailed images over a wide range of ISOs. It is especially good for enthusiasts, thanks to the manual controls and Raw recording options, and the pocket-friendly camera dimensions also make it a handy travel camera. A built-in viewfinder and a fully hinged screen would have been welcome, but the tilting touch screen is useful when dealing with difficult shots. This is a great compact and one of the best cheap canon cameras that deliver strong performance for the price.

Canon EOS Rebel T6
A fantastic cheap Canon camera for beginners
- Type: DSLR
- Sensor: APS-C
- Megapixels: 18MP
- Lens mount: Canon EF-S
- Screen: 3in fixed, 920k dots
- Viewfinder: Optical
- Continuous shooting: 3fps
- Videos: Full HD (1080p)
- Weight: 485g
This is Canon’s cheapest entry-level DSLR, and while it is simple, it is a perfectly suitable camera for a student or beginner with a cash strap who just wants to get started. It has one of the older 18MP sensors from Canon, but the quality is still pretty good, and there is sufficient manual control for anyone who has gone beyond the basics and now wants to develop their photographic skills. Overall, this is one of the best cheap canon cameras that you can buy right now.

Canon EOS M6
A brilliant mid-range camera
- Type: Mirrorless
- Sensor: APS-C
- Megapixels: 24.2MP
- Lens mount: Canon EF-M
- Screen: 3in tilting touchscreen, 1,04million dots
- Burst shooting: 9fps (7fps with continuous AF)
- Video: Full HD (1080p)
- Weight: 391g
The EOS M6 is essentially the same as the EOS M5, but without the built-in viewfinder (although you can get one as an optional accessory). This can be considered a disadvantage, but if you do not have a viewfinder, the body becomes slightly smaller and tidier. If we chose a Canon mirrorless camera for an enthusiast, it would amount to this or the EOS M5. If you already have a Canon DSLR, you can also use your existing lenses on EOS M cameras via a lens adapter, so it’s surely one of the best cheap canon cameras that you can buy.

Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II
This powerhouse compact hides a massive 1in sensor
- Type: Compact
- Sensor: 1in
- Megapixels: 20.1MP
- Lens: 28-84mm f/2.0-4.9
- Screen: 3in touchscreen, 1.04million dots
- Viewfinder: No
- Maximum continuous shooting: 8.2fps
- Max video resolution: Full HD (1080p)
- Weight: 206g
The PowerShot G9 X Mark II has a large sensor in a slim housing and exceeds expectations. The most important features are a more than average 1 in 20.1MP sensor and aluminum construction that according to Canon is 25 percent thinner than the previous iteration, plus continuous recording speeds of up to 8.2 fps (thanks to a DIGIC 7 processor). If you are looking for a neat, user-friendly compact camera that produces dramatically superior images on your smartphone, the PowerShot G9 X Mark II is the first choice if you are looking for the best cheap canon cameras.

Canon PowerShot SX720 HS
A compact camera with a huge 40x zoom lens
- Type: Compact
- Sensor: 1/2.3in
- Megapixels: 20.3MP
- Lens: 24-960mm f/3.3-6.9
- Screen: 3in fixed, 922k dots
- Viewfinder: No
- Max video resolution: Full HD (1080p)
- Weight: 270g
The Canon PowerShot SX720 HS is a superzoom travel compact that manages to squeeze a 40x optical zoom into its small scale. It has full manual control and built-in Wi-Fi and delivers sharp, vivid images. Although the sensor is a bit small, it features an illuminated design that helps it capture light better. We would have liked to see a touch-sensitive screen, perhaps a screen that can also tilt up and down, but it is perhaps due to the lack of it that Canon is able to keep the price down.
