Tech Companies With Most Cash Stashed Abroad – US multinational firms are holding more than $2 trillion of their money overseas, JP Morgan wrote in the latest report. Among the S&P 500, roughly $589 billion, or 63% of their whole cash, was tied in international countries, it said. It makes sense for companies to leave their cash overseas because they’d otherwise get taxed once more on the money they carry into the US. One thing that stands out is that tech companies make up more than half of the top 25 firms with the most cash overseas, and almost all of the top 10.
This is partly as a result of tech companies make lots of sales overseas, and tend to have decrease operational costs than (for instance) retailers or manufacturers, so that they often preserve a lot of cash on hand.
