Earlier this week, some Windows 11 Dev Channel users saw advertisements or promotions in their Start menu urging them to create a Microsoft account, back up their data to OneDrive, and complete their profile.
This has undoubtedly sparked a lot of discussions on social media sites like Twitter and in the comments area of our own stories. Because the majority of readers condemned Microsoft for supporting the ideas they thought their operating system was promoting.
To be fair, this backlash shouldn’t come as a surprise. Microsoft was previously involved in testing Microsoft Editor ads in File Explorer. At the time, the company quickly removed them, claiming they weren’t intended for public release.
Still, although the ad banner was accidentally released this time around, the real problem here is that Microsoft has definitely been toying with the idea, and the tech giant doesn’t know when the time is right to give the go-ahead. Publish your initiative to the public.
it doesn’t matter. People who (believe) need Windows will continue to use it. Windows users are goldmines waiting to be cracked and cornered, and Microsoft knows it.
