Apple kindly lent me an iPhone 14 Plus and Airpods Pro 2 for test drives.
I’m a longtime user of his Airpods and am currently on my 5th pair. It’s not Apple’s fault — I’ve crushed one under a car tire, dropped another down a sewer grate, and sweated profusely from two couples.
To be fair, I also tried him two pairs of running shoes in the same period. I also suffered a stress fracture in my ankle because I didn’t change those shoes fast enough. I’m digressing anyway.
Despite my love for making Apple wireless headphones, or earbuds for them, I wasn’t a big fan of the idea of the Pro model. Flexible, rubbery bits at the edges? Well, not for me… I thought. The real problem is that most ear tips that use these silicone tips don’t really tell you how to wear them properly.
I tried the smaller version and it seems to fit. I have tried the following sizes and they say the same thing. Most of the time you have to choose the wrong size because the bud never really feels like it fits.
Luckily, I didn’t face any of these issues with my Airpods Pro 2. iOS 13.2 and later comes with settings that help you test the fit in practice. I have something like Dumbo) and it will tell you if you need to use a smaller chip. I’ve maintained a solid seal while running, in the gym, and at my desk.
