How to Clear Browsing Data using Keyboard Shortcut – Guide
We are not here to judge or ask questions. You should delete your recent browsing history as soon as possible. Fortunately for you, we can help. If you’re using Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Brave, there’s a keyboard shortcut that will help you clear your most recent browsing history as quickly as possible, for reasons that are none of our business.
Most online browsers allow you to remove the previous time from your browsing history. This is generally the ideal solution for individuals who just want to erase the data they were looking for, but nothing older. If you need something with a shorter lead time, we’ll have a solution for you later.
For Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Brave and Opera, the following keyboard shortcuts will work:
Clearing the last hour of Safari history
If you use Safari on your Mac, you might be wondering why we didn’t mention your browser in this article. For some reason Apple makes it one of the only major browsers not to have a keyboard shortcut to clear your web history.
Fortunately, macOS makes setup easy up a keyboard shortcut for virtually any application. Just open System Preferences > Keyboard, click Shortcuts, then Application Shortcuts, then click the (+).
System Preferences will open the shortcut tool. Click “All apps” and select “Safari”. Type “Clear History…” (ellipsis included) in the Menu Title text field and enter the desired keyboard shortcut. For some reason macOS rejects the default shortcut “Command + Shift + Delete”, so I went with “Command + Shift + Return”.
After clicking “Add”, your shortcut will be ready to use. Go back to Safari, try it out and clear your last hour of browsing history.
Clearing the last 15 minutes of Google history
While we’re focusing on desktop web browsers, we’d be remiss not to address Google’s new “Delete Last 15 Minutes” feature. As the name implies, when using the Google app on your phone, you can clear the most recent 15 minutes of browsing activity right away. Since most browsers only allow you to delete up until the last hour of the story, this feature is significant.
To use it, tap your profile icon in the top right corner of the Google app main page. If you have any recent browsing history, you will see “Delete last 15 min” option in this window. Tap it once and Google will start deleting your history. You have a small window of time to back out of this decision, however, by tapping the “CANCEL” option that appears at the bottom of the screen.
