Many people use Amazon Fire Stick to watch their favorite internet-accessed shows, movies and live channels on their TV. Furthermore, the product allows users to easily customize its configuration options and also connect with Alexa Echo devices. Amazon’s Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo and Tap smart speakers let you control multiple devices with your voice, including the Fire TV range. All you need to control your Fire TV device this way is an Alexa-enabled device and a shared Wi-Fi connection.

To control your Fire TV, Fire TV Stick or Fire TV Edition TV through your Alexa-enabled device, you first need to connect it. You cannot use certain Alexa-enabled apps and devices to control your Fire TV, such as the Alexa app, Amazon Shopping app, and Amazon Fire tablets.

Controlling your Roku media streamer with the standard remote can be tricky, but if you have an Amazon Echo, you don’t necessarily need to use that remote. By talking to Alexa, you can switch to a specific channel, play and pause a show, adjust the volume, and search for your favorite content on your Roku.

Use Alexa to Control Your Amazon Fire TV

Open your ‘Amazon Alexa’ app mobile device by clicking the Amazon Alexa icon.

You must now click on the ‘Menu’ i.e. the three horizontal lines to view the various options available in your Amazon Alexa app.

Now, from the menu options, you must select the ‘Music, Video and Books’ option from the list of the various options present in the Amazon Alexa application menu.

Now in the sub-options, you have to press the ‘Fire TV’ option from the available lists.

On the next screen, you have to press the ‘Link your Alexa device’ option to establish the connection of your Amazon Fire TV with your Amazon Alexa device.

In the next mobile screen, you must press the name of your Fire TV, make sure this checkbox is enabled. Once done, you need to press the ‘Continue’ button button.

Now the user has to click on all the Amazon device they want to connect to the Fire TV. Once the devices are selected, you must press the ‘Link Devices’ option.

You can now return your Fire TV and press the ‘Home’ button for a certain period of time to gain access to the Amazon Fire TV settings.

Now from the various settings options you have to select the ‘Alexa’ option.

When you click on the Alexa settings option, you will still see two sub-options. If you select the ‘Alexa App’, you can customize your Alexa experience.

Control your Roku with an Amazon Echo

To get started, make sure your Roku device is turned on and open the Alexa app on your mobile device. Tap the hamburger icon and select Settings > TV & Video to see a list of all the streaming services Alexa can control.

In that case, select the input for Roku and set up the associated skill by tapping Enable skill on the next page. There will be a list of example commands you can give Alexa to control your Roku device or smart TV.

You will be prompted to log into your Roku account. On the next screen, tap on the Accept and Continue button button. Choose your device location and tap Save. Your Roku is named using the selected location.

On the next screen, tap the link for the Alexa app button and select Continue to the Alexa app. Roku has now successfully linked to your Alexa account.

Alexa will now search for your nearby Roku device. Select the name of the device you want to control and tap Continue.

Now choose the Echo device you want to use when controlling this Roku and tap on Link Devices button. This will allow your Echo to communicate directly with Roku via Alexa.

Then you will see the echo you chose as the linked device. You can link another echo by tapping the Link Other Device button button or return to the Roku skill by tapping the Return to Roku link at the bottom of the screen.

Some example phrases include “Alexa, turn the volume up on my Roku”, “Alexa, mute the volume on my Roku”, “Alexa, start the Roku Channel on my Roku”, “Alexa, find science fiction on my Roku” and “Alexa, go home on my Roku.”

If you have more than one Roku, remember to specify the device name in your command, such as “Alexa, open the Roku Channel in my Roku room”. Also, you can tell Alexa to launch a variety of different channels on Roku, but not all are supported.
