Creating a Discord server is almost the same for all popular platforms. You can use it on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer, as well as iOS or Android mobile devices. What’s more, you can even use it through an Internet browser by accessing the Discord web application. The process usually involves the following steps.

  • Installing the Discord app.
  • Creating your Discord account.
  • Joining Discord.
  • Creating your server.

To create a Discord server using the web app, follow these steps.

  • Visit https://discord.com/.
  • Click on “Open Discord in Your Browser” in the main part of the screen. If that button is not available, you can click “Login” in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Enter your username and click the button button with the arrow pointing to the right.
  • Now, you will likely have to solve a reCAPTCHA challenge “I’m not a robot”. After successfully passing the test, you will enter the Discord app.
  • Select your date of birth and click “Next”.

  • Now, you can define whether this server will be for your personal use or for a club or community. For now, select “For me and my friends”.
  • The next screen allows you to customize your server. You can upload an image to use on your server as well as set the server name. When finished, click “Create”.

  • Click “Continue to Discord”.
  • This action will automatically open the Discord web application. When this happens, you will likely see the “Open Discord?” notification. Click “Open Discord” to return to the app. Of course, you can also close this tab and go back to the app yourself. Just click on the application icon on the taskbar.
  • After returning to the Discord desktop app, you will notice a yellow exclamation point in the menu on the left. It hovers over the “Create a server” button. Click.

    To make a Discord server on Android, you need to install Discord mobile application in your mobile Google Play device.

  • When the app opens, tap on the “hamburger” menu. It’s the icon that looks like three horizontal lines in the top left corner of the app.
  • You will now see the “Create a server” icon that looks like a plus sign. Tap on it.

  • Add an image to your server, name it and tap “Create Server”.
  • You can now invite people to join your server if they are using Discord. Otherwise, you can share the link at the bottom of the screen. You can skip this step by tapping the “x” in the upper left corner.

    Creating a Discord server on iPhone or any other iOS device is very similar to what is done on Android.

  • The First Step to Create a Discord Server on an iPhone or Any Other iOS mobile device is to download the application from the Apple App Store.
  • After installing the app, launch it and fill in all necessary details about yourself.
  • Once this is done and the app opens, tap on the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner.
  • Tap the “Create a server” icon, which looks like a plus sign in the menu on the left.
  • Now tap on “Create a server” at the bottom of the screen.
  • On the next screen, add an image and name for your server. When finished, tap on “Create Server”.
  • You can skip “Invite members” for now by tapping “Close” in the upper left corner.
  • Now the app will take you to your new Discord server.

    • How to Create a Discord Server on Chromebook

    For those using a Chromebook, there are two ways to create a Discord server:

  • Use the Chrome browser to navigate to the Discord web app. This process is explained in the first part of “How to Make a Discord Server on Windows and Mac” from this article.
  • Install the Android app from Google Play. To do this, follow the steps explained in “How to Make a Discord Server on Android” above.
  • When using a Chromebook, the experience is much better with the web app. The Android app is made for mobile devices, and the interface can get clunky when using it on a laptop.

    Discord servers are as public as you want them to be. At first, no one can join your server unless you or someone else invited them by sharing the server link. If you post your Discord server link publicly on a website or any social network, it will have a public perception. However, if you want to create a truly public server that anyone can access without using a link, you will have to enable the “Community” option. Be aware that it will take some time for your server to actually go public as Discord has strict guidelines that you will have to adhere to first.

  • Right-click your server icon in the left menu.
  • Click on “Server Settings”.
  • Click on the “Enable Community” option in the left menu.

  • To become publicly visible, click on “Discovery” in the “Community” section.
