How to Disable “Search the Web” results in Windows 11 PC – Guide

If you search for something in the start menu, you will see that Internet search results appear in addition to results from your own computer, such as applications or documents. Disable ‘Search the Web’ in Windows Search using Registry Editor

The Registry Editor feature on Windows 11 can be used to create a new registry which will disable ‘Search the Web’ in Start Menu search feature.

First, open the registry editor by searching the Start Menu search and selecting it from the search results.

After the Registry Editor window opens up, copy and paste the following text into the address bar located near the top of the window.

Now, in the left pane, right click on ‘Windows’ and select ‘New’ and then select ‘Key’.

Name the new key ‘Explorer’ and press ‘Enter’ to save.

After that, right click on the new key ‘Explorer’ and select ‘New’ and then ‘DWORD value (32-bit)’.

Rename the new record to ‘DisableSearchBoxSuggestions’ and press ‘Enter’. This will create the registry entry that will disable the feature.

Now double click on the record and when a small dialog box appears up, set the ‘Value data’ to 1 and click ‘OK’. This will enable logging and make it active.

All that’s left to do is restart your computer and the change will take effect. After restarting the computer, search for anything in the Start Menu search.

Disable Web Search from the Start menu through Group Policy Editor

To open Group Policy Editor, first open up the Run window by pressing Windows + r on the keyboard. Alternatively, you can right click on the Start Menu icon and select ‘Run’.

After the Run window opens up, type gpedit.msc into the command line and click ‘OK’.

After the Local Group Policy Editor opens up, you need to navigate to a specific directory.

Go to ‘User Configuration’ → ‘Administrative Templates’ → ‘Windows Components’ → ‘File Explorer’ folder.

After selecting the ‘File Explorer’ directory, you will see the option ‘Disable displaying recent search entries in File Explorer ..’ in the right pane.

Now double click the option ‘Disable displaying recent search entries in File Explorer…’ and a new window will appear. By default the toggle ‘Not Configured’ will be selected. Change to ‘Enabled’ and click ‘OK’.

After that, restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
