As demand for voice-enabled virtual assistants grows, many companies are already taking advantage of this new opportunity. But not only companies that spend large sums of money on Amazon advertising can benefit from this growing demand. Nonprofits can now accept donations through a new feature powered by Amazon Pay called Alexa Donations. Thereby feature, Alexa users can simply say, “Alexa, donate $20 to .” Payment information from the user’s Amazon account is used to complete the transaction. In order for nonprofits to benefit from this new Alexa feature, they should definitely subscribe up for Amazon Pay. According to their website, “Amazon Pay provides a seamless donation experience using information already stored in your donor’s Amazon account.”
The idea behind this “perfect” experience is to ensure simplicity, security and trust in the transaction so that your supporters are more likely to contribute to your cause. To sign up for Amazon Pay, simply click here and submit the relevant information on Amazon’s secure site if you have not already done so. From there, you will be asked to create a login email address and password, add your organization name and credit card information (you will not be charged), CPF and phone verification to start working with the initial setup up your site.

If you have Amazon Alexa, you can start by saying, “Alexa, I want to make a donation.” Alexa will ask which charity you would like to donate to. If you’d like to donate to an organization verified by Charity Navigator, take a look at this page! 32 organizations highly rated by Charity Navigator are now accepting donations from Amazon Alexa. Once you’ve told Alexa which charity you’d like to donate, also say how much you’d like to donate and that’s it! You have successfully donated using Amazon Alexa. (Note: The Amazon Pay process and the Charity Navigator donation process for donations to other organizations are completely separate and not related in any way – if you donate through the Charity Navigator website, this is a different donation setup than Amazon Pay! )
Charities must start accepting donations through Amazon Pay to receive donations from Amazon. If you choose to donate through your Alexa, the 83 charities will receive donations through your Amazon Pay account. A nice aspect of this program is that charities have a lower processing fee than sellers on Amazon Pay, which means more of your donation goes into the charity’s hands. (To learn more about donation processing fees, which nearly all online donations incur, read our tips on here). The current donation processing fee for Amazon Pay is 2.2% plus a $0.30 authorization fee. This means that if you donated $10.00 to a charity, only $0.52 will be taken.
