Delete Duplicates in iTunes Using iTunes Settings

Many people don’t know, but iTunes offers a built-in way to find and remove duplicate songs from your library:

To find the duplicated songs in your library, just go to File->Library->Show Duplicate Items. This will show you all the duplicated songs in your library.

When you find all the duplicate songs, just right click on the duplicates and delete them from the library. Keep in mind that you may have kept different versions of songs (regular, remastered, live), so listen before deleting.

Disable Duplicate Song Import

iTunes no longer supports importing the same song twice until you force it, essentially solving the automatic file duplication issue. However, it’s best to make sure the settings are enabled in iTunes preferences.

To check, open iTunes Preferences and go to the “Advanced” tab.
