Set the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the Activity Monitor interface to “My processes” to only view those that belong to your user ID. Switch to “All Processes” to see the complete list of what is running on your MacBook Pro.

Click on a process name to select it. Shift-click another item in the list to select all entries between your original selection and the second selected process name. Command-click on additional entries to add them to your selection individually. Once you’ve made your selection, set the drop-down menu to “Selected Processes” to track only the items in the process list. Note that the statistics at the bottom of the window continue to reflect all processes running on your system.

Click on the “CPU” header in the main part of the Activity Monitor window to sort the list of processes by the amount of CPU capacity they use. When the arrow on the CPU header tab points downwards, the list is sorted in descending order with the most active processes at the top. Click the header a second time to change the sort order.
