Nvidia Overlay is a useful tool that is part of the GeForce experience and is used for screen or video recording, frame rate preview, screen capture and transfer. While it is solid software, there are instances where certain overlapping issues can occur, which we will address today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will deal with NVIDIA Game Overlay not working on Windows.

Nvidia Overlay is a useful tool that is part of the GeForce experience and is used for screen or video capture, frame rate display, screen capture and streaming. While it is solid software, there are instances where certain overlapping issues can occur, which we will address today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will deal with NVIDIA Game Overlay not working on Windows.

How to Fix NVIDIA GeForce Experience Overlay Not Working on Windows PC

Make sure the in-game GeForce overlay is enabled

  • Open GeForce Experience and click the gear icon to open Settings.
  • In the left pane, select GENERAL and then toggle the switch to enable IN-GAME OVERLAY.

    • restart your computer

  • The GeForce overlay not working issue can sometimes be resolved with a simple reboot as this action will update your operating system and remove any corrupted temporary data that could cause the issue. So you should give it a try first.
  • After restarting the computer, verify that the GeForce overlay is working.

    • Install all Windows updates

  • On the keyboard, press the Windows logo key and I to open Settings.
  • Click Update & Security.
  • Under Windows Update, click Check for updates. It will take some time for Windows to search for and install system updates.
  • Restart your computer.

    • Run GeForce Experience as Administrator

  • On the desktop, right-click GeForce Experience and select Properties.
  • Navigate to the Compatibility tab, check the Run this program as administrator box. Then click Apply to save the changes.
  • Click OK to exit the window.

  • Open GeForce Experience and click the gear icon to open Settings.
  • In the left pane, select GENERAL. In the ABOUT section, check the box next to “Enable features. A GeForce Experience update may be required.”

    • Disable third-party services

  • On the keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke the Run box.
  • Type msconfig and click OK to open System Configuration.
  • In the system configuration, navigate to the Services tab, check the Hide all Microsoft services box.
  • Uncheck all services EXCEPT NVIDIA services and click OK to save changes.
  • Restart your computer.

    • Repair Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package

  • On the keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke the Run box.
  • Type appwiz.cpl and click OK.
  • In Programs and Features, right-click Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and select Change. (You need to repeat the same process for all Visual C++ redistributable packages listed, but you can skip versions 2008 and earlier.)
  • in the pop-up window, click Repair. Then wait a few minutes for the repair process to complete.
  • After completing the process, click Close.

    • install a media Feature Package

  • Go to Microsoft’s download page for media Feature Package.
  • Under Downloads, select the appropriate Windows 10 N edition from the drop-down menu and click Confirm.
  • According to your Windows edition, click Download 32-bit or Download 64-bit.
  • After downloading the package, follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

    • Reinstall GeForce Experience

  • On the keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke the Run box.
  • Type appwiz.cpl and click OK.
  • Right-click GeForce Experience and select Uninstall/Change.
  • in the pop-up window, click UNINSTALL.
  • Go to the official GeForce Experience website to download the latest version of the program.
  • After downloading, follow the onscreen instructions to install GeForce Experience.
