The Forest is a survival horror video game developed and published by Endnight Games. The multiplayer game takes place on a remote heavily forested peninsula, where the player character Eric LeBlanc must fight off cannibalistic monsters while searching for his son Timmy after a plane crash. In a strict sense, The Forest is a survival horror game. It includes all the typical aspects of survival, such as gathering resources to build your base and make items, managing various stats like stamina, hunger, and even sanity. But what really sets The Forest apart from other survival games is its horror component.
You take on the role of the world’s unluckiest survival expert and father as your plane crashes on a remote peninsula and your son is taken hostage by an enigmatic red figure. And if that weren’t bad enough, you’ll soon learn that this location isn’t actually that remote after all once you start looking around and looking for your son. You might hear a few twigs snap behind you, experience strange nighttime screeching, or just happen to stumble across one of their camps. In either case, the mutant cannibal creatures that call this place home and have already disposed of your fellow passengers will soon welcome you. Then, what you do from there is what distinguishes this game.

About the Gameplay
In The Forest, players take control of Eric LeBlanc, who after a tragic plane crash must eke out an existence on a wooded peninsula in order to find his son Timmy. By constructing a shelter, weapons, and other survival tools, players must survive. A tribe of cannibalistic mutants who live in villages on the peninsula’s surface and deep caves beneath it live there with various woodland creatures. They may not always be hostile toward the player, but their typical behavior is hostile, especially at night. Players should consider whether the cannibalistic tribe on the peninsula is the player’s enemy or the opposite.
For instance, when the player first encounters the cannibals, they might decide against attacking and instead choose to keep a distance, make an effort to communicate with the player through effigies, and dispatch patrols to the area surrounding the player’s base camp. They frequently try to shield one another from harm, extinguish torches, surround the player, take cover, carry wounded tribesmen to safety, maintain a safe distance, make tactical choices, avoid overextending into uncharted territory, and occasionally give up in fear.
They are also frightened of fire, and if a campfire or torch is lit nearby, they may sometimes hesitate to approach the player. Despite the lack of predetermined missions, the game has a possible ending. Players will come across increasingly bizarre mutations as they advance through the game and explore the caves beneath the forest’s surface, including deformed infants and mutants with multiple extra appendages. A day and night cycling is also included in the game, allowing the player to construct a shelter and traps, go on animal hunts and gather supplies during the day, and fight off mutants at night.
