After its release, Minecraft created a new type of game genre called sandbox games where players can create, modify or destroy their environment, and now there are many sandbox games like Minecraft. After all, the game is designed for a variety of platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and more. But even after all these years, the game was not developed for Chrome OS.   • To install Linux on your Chromebook, open Chromebook Settings and select Linux (Beta) from the menu on the left. Select Enable on the Linux panel.
  • in the pop-up Linux configuration window, select Next to continue. Enter a username for your Linux session and select Install. It may take several minutes for the Chromebook to download and configure up the virtual machine where Linux will be installed. When finished, you will see a Linux terminal window appear.
  • Visit the Minecraft download page and download the Debian/Ubuntu Minecraft.deb file for your Chromebook. Save the file to the Linux files folder under My files in the Chromebook storage area.
  • Double-click the Minecraft.deb file and select Install button to install Minecraft in the Linux virtual machine on your Chromebook.
  • Once the installation is complete, open the App Drawer, click on the Linux folder and select Minecraft Launcher.
  • This will launch Minecraft for Chromebook. You will see the login window. Just log into your Minecraft account to start playing Minecraft! After launching the game, the app will automatically download the latest version to your Linux container and install the update.

    Minecraft will work fine on your Chromebook after following the steps above to install it. However, you may find that the game is a little slow or the mouse may not work properly. There are a few Chromebook settings you can tweak to improve performance and reduce the chance of a bug.

    Enable Chrome Flags

    Enable Chrome flags. The following flags will improve your Minecraft gaming experience. If you don’t see any of the available flags below, it means it’s not available on your version of Chromebook and you don’t have to worry about turning the flag on. Enable all of the following flags by opening Chrome Browser, typing (or pasting) the URL, and selecting Enabled from the drop-down list.

  • Optimize Minecraft Settings for Chromebook

    To optimize Minecraft settings for Chromebook, press Esc during gameplay and select Options from the menu. Select Video Settings. Adjust the following settings.

  • Graphics: Fast
  • Soft lighting: off
  • Render Distance: 10 pieces
  • Maximum frame rate: 30 fps
  • Clouds: OFF
  • Particles: Minimum
  • Entity Shadows: OFF
  • Install OptiFine for Minecraft

    If you have a low-end Chromecast device and you find that Minecraft still runs very slowly even after updating the above settings, you can install OptiFine for Minecraft. This app optimizes its frame rate for low-end Chromebooks. Just download the latest version of Optifine, put it in your Linux files folder and in the Terminal window type: java -jar OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5.jar(Replace the file name with the one you downloaded. In our case above, our file name is OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5). Select Install and OptiFine will be installed on your Chromebook Linux installation. This means that even on a Chromebook you can play Minecraft in full screen mode and it will work just fine.
