Google Chrome for Android now supports the option to view links without having to open them in another tab. This new preview option in Chrome is very similar to “peek and pop” feature offered on Apple devices. Unlike Apple’s version, Google’s preview feature only works in android browser.

You can use the preview function to take a look at the appearance of the web page. If you want more than just a look, you can also use the preview option to navigate to the relevant link in the small preview window. Before starting the steps, make sure Google Chrome is installed on your Android phone running Chrome 98. If you’re not sure you have the latest update, tap More > Settings > About Chrome to see your current version. If it’s not the latest available, you’ll likely see a prompt to update Chrome.

How to Take a look at the links before opening them in Chrome for Android devices

First, open the Chrome app on your Android phone or tablet and navigate to a website.

Then find a link anywhere on the page, then tap and hold until a popup menu appears.

The menu includes options to open in incognito mode, copy the link, and more. What we want is “Preview page”.

The link will open in a preview pane at the top of the current page. You can view the page being viewed as you normally would on any other website. Any links you select within the preview will also open in the preview pane.

If you want to open the page in a full tab, tap the arrow icon in the box. This will create a tab group with the original page you were on.

To close the view, drag down from the top of the slide-up panel or tap the “X” icon.
