How to Send Your Location to others on iPhone – Guide
When trying to find someone in a specific pre-decided location but you don’t actually know the exact address, you would probably appreciate the potential of telling you exactly where you are without knowing the exact details. That’s exactly what your iPhone lets you do – share your location via GPS with anyone with just a tap. Due to some obvious privacy and security issues, your phone does not broadcast your location every time without permission. Instead, you need to choose to send your location to a specific person.
You have many options for doing this – you can send your current location to someone via Messages, Contacts, Google Maps or Apple Maps. And depending on the app, you can send your current location just once or share your location for a period of time – which is useful if you’re on the go and want someone to be able to find you wherever you are, for example.
When Share My Location is on, you can share your location with friends, family and contacts on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Find My. You can also share your location in the Find People app on watchOS 6 or later with Apple Watch models that have GPS and cell phone and are paired with your iPhone.
If you have already configured up Family Sharing and using Location Sharing, your family members automatically appear in Find My.
You can also share your location in Messaging.
- Open the Find My app and select the People tab.
- Select Share My Location or Start sharing location.
- Enter the name or phone number of the person you want to share your location with.
- Select Submit.
- Choose to share your location for an hour, until the final of the day or Share Indefinitely.
- Select OK.
- When you share your location with someone, that person has the option to share your location back.
Give your place a name
If you wish, you can name the places you visit frequently:
- Open the Find My app and select the Me tab.
- Scroll down and choose Edit Location Name.
- Select Home, Work, School, Gym, None.
- You can also choose Add Custom Label to create your own name for the place. Just enter a name and select Done.
Change your sharing device
To change the device you are sharing your location from, open Find My on that device. Select the Me tab and choose Use this [device] as My Location.
