How to Setup Parental Controls on Windows 10/11 PC – Guide
Parental control can keep your children safe while using the computer. For example, they can restrict which programs they run and which websites they can visit, how much time they can spend in front of their computers each day, and receive detailed reports on their activities. How to enable and optimize parental controls for each child account in Windows 10/11. To use Windows Parental Controls, you need two things: you need to log in to Windows with your Microsoft account (not a local account) and the account you want to manage needs to be defined up as a child account on Windows.
On Windows 10/11, your child must also use a Microsoft account to sign in. This is a change from previous versions of Windows, but you can apply parental control settings to any Windows device your child uses and manages Internet settings.

Create a children’s account
Firstly, you need to create a child account for your child, for whom you want to set up up parental controls in Windows 11. Please note that parent and child accounts must have a separate Microsoft account. When creating a new child account, you will be prompted to create a new Microsoft account to associate with the child account. Now, here are the main steps to create a child account on Windows 10/11:
First, open the Settings app by pressing the Windows shortcut key + I. Then tap your account name in the upper left corner or simply select the Account tab in the left pane to open up account settings.
In the account settings, select the Family and other users option to create a child account. Then you need to click Add account button which is present next to Add a family member. this will open up a Microsoft account dialog window.
Finally, press the Next button. button and the child account will be created and associated with your account. If you wish, you can change the account type or block the login of the child account created in the future by accessing the Account Settings.
To define up and configure parental control to limit access
After creating a child account, you need to define up Parental control settings to block certain websites and other content. Here are the main steps to define up parental controls in Windows 11:
First, go to Settings > Accounts > Family and other users, like we did in the first part. After that, select Manage family settings online or remove an account option. You will be taken to the Microsoft Family Safety page in your default browser. On this page, select the child account you want to set up parental controls.
Now, on your child’s account’s Family Safety page, you’ll see different tabs in the left pane, including Screen Time, Content Filtering, and Spending. you can define up each of these configurations one by one and according to your requirements. So first go to the Screen Time tab and enable the Use a schedule on all devices button to configure screen time limits.
Now you can set the screen time limit for each day. If you want to keep the same schedule every day, you can also do this by selecting the Every day option.
Just click on a certain day and select a time limit. It also allows you to edit or add multiple schedules to allow the child to use the account only for that specific time frame. To add a new schedule, click the Add a schedule option and specify the time range for the child account to use. That way you can add multiple time slots. Ste up the screen time limits and press the Done button button.
Then go to the Content Filters tab and, in the Web and Search section, enable the Filter inappropriate websites and searches option. Basically, this will activate SafeSearch with Bing and block any adult content on a child’s account. Also, you can use the Only use allowed websites option if you want to allow only specific websites.
You can click Add a site (+) button present under Allowed Sites, to add sites that you want to allow in the child account. Likewise, you can block access to specific websites using the Add a website (+) button button present on blocked sites.
In addition, you can turn on the Enable Activity Reporting option to view and monitor searches and web activity in your child’s account. Then go to the Apps and Games section in the same Content Filtering tab. Here, you can select an age limit to allow age-restricted apps and games on your child’s account only.
If your child asks to access a particular app, you will be asked to do the same. You can allow or deny the requested access. If you want to allow access to an automatically blocked application, you can click the Remove link button in the Blocked Applications section.
You can now go to the Spending tab, where you can activate activity reporting for your child’s spending on the device. To do this, activate the Activate activity reporting button on this tab.
