How to Share Location on iPhone – Guide

If you need to find out the whereabouts of a friend or family member, check your Apple device and the Find My app, which lets you find someone’s location or share your location with them, from your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch. It’s even useful for tracking a lost device linked to your Apple ID or Home Sharing account. To get the latest Find My app features, make sure you’re running iOS 15/iPadOS 15 or later on your iPhone or iPad and watchOS 8 or later on your Apple Watch. To update your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The application will inform you that your operating system is up up to date or prompt you to download and install the latest update.

To update your Apple Watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to General > Software Update. By default, you can already see the locations of everyone in your Apple family. Open the Find My app and tap People. The names of everyone who shares your location with you will appear on a map. You can then tap a person’s name to interact with them. Tap Contact to call, email or text. Tap Directions to launch Apple Maps with turn-by-turn directions to your location. Under Notifications, tap the Add link to receive a notification when that person arrives or leaves a specific location.

How to enable location services on an iPhone

Before sharing your location with anyone, make sure location services are turned on.

Open the Settings app.

Tap “Privacy” and then “Location Services”.

Open a conversation with the person you want to send your location to.
