How to Stop Spam Phone Calls – Guide
O phone rings. Do you expect it to be a real human individual, trying to get in touch with you? Most of the time, I accept that it’s a robot, calling to “let me know” that my vehicle’s warranty will expire or that I’ve “earned” a free trip to the Caribbean. Besides, I’m in good company. There was an expectation of 26.3 billion robocals for the US phone numbers in 2018, which was a monstrous increase over the previous year.
A large part of these spam calls come from crooks who use software dialers to call as many phone numbers that could be expected under the circumstances. Enough scams from individuals for these tricks for the training to be beneficial, which is unfortunate in itself. Most of us, in the meantime, are receiving more spam calls than actual calls, interrupting our day-to-day routines, including during work hours – and the problem is deteriorating.
Block calls manually
If you get calls from telemarketing companies or from strangers frequently, the best way to deal with this annoyance is to block their numbers. The easiest solution to do this by opening the call log on your Android phone, press and hold the number you want to stop receiving calls from, then press block.
Blocking calls with third-party apps
There are several third-party call blocking apps available on the Google Play Store that can prevent annoying spammers from reaching your phone. Some require a monthly subscription, but some apps are available for free. Some of these apps include Truecaller, Hiya, Should I Answer?, Mr. Number, &c. These apps have an extensive database and constantly update the list of spammers, robocallers, etc. to stop these calls. Some of these third-party apps even warn you with a message and let you add the number to a private block list. Also, some of these apps automatically hang up the fraudulent numbers whenever they find any match of these calls with their extensive list of spammers.
Block calls, except those in the contact list
If you want to block the entire list of unwanted calls, one of the options you can choose is to download an app like Call Blocker. This app allows you to block all numbers except those in your contact list. To do this, just download the app from the Play Store, open it and select Blacklist. Tap on add button and select the option ‘From call log’. Select the numbers you want to blacklist and the rest is cake. The only downside of these call blocker apps is that the phone does not ring whenever you receive a call from a number that is not saved in your contact list.
