To receive their pensions, retirees must present their life certificates by November 30th. This can be a time-consuming process for many seniors. However, the country’s largest lender, the State Bank of India (SBI), recently unveiled a new tool to make the procedure easier.
SBI has established a Video Life Certificate (VLC) service, which allows retirees to schedule a video chat with SBI employees and submit their life certificates via mobile or computer devices. They will no longer need to go to the bank.
“We hope this facility will digitally empower seniors and allow them to submit their life certificates without having to visit a branch office during COVID-19,” said SBI President Dinesh Khara.

Pensioners who have their pension accounts made at SBI can login at www.pensionseva.sbi. Retirees must wear a device that has a front face. camera in it, like mobile phones, tablets with front cameras and laptops and PCs with web cameras.
On the website, users must select Video LC and then enter the SBI pension account number. They will receive an OTP (one-time password) in their mobile numbers that have been registered with the SBI pension account. After submitting the OTP in the field provided, users can proceed.
In addition, they must read the terms and conditions and click ‘Start Journey’ to proceed. The web browser will request access to the video capture from the camera, which UseRS must allow. Retirees should keep their PAN card handy and click ‘I’m ready’.
SBI personnel assigned to retirees will ask users to read aloud a 4-digit code that will be visible on the screen. They will ask that the PAN card be shown to the camera so they can capture the details and capture the retiree’s image.
In case of rejection of the VLC, the bank will send an SMS informing the retiree of the same.
