PCs come with fingerprint readers that can unlock the desktop, and those fingerprint readers were around long before Apple introduced Touch ID or Android added support for a fingerprint sensor. Only Macs were left out. Apple has never added a fingerprint reader to its Macs, although many laptops have one. Apple hasn’t even added FaceID to their Macbooks while Windows has Windows Hello. A fingerprint sensor is useful for everyone and serves to protect your device. Even PCs come with fingerprint scanners that can unlock the desktop. Every smartphone has it these days. iPhone has TouchID and Windows has Windows Hellow.

However, Apple has never added a fingerprint scanner to its Macs. The same applies to Face ID. Not yet added on Macbooks. So if you have an Android device and use a Mac, you can use DroidID to unlock Mac with Android fingerprint scanner. Many apps can be used to unlock your Mac directly from your iPhone device and this is what users probably love. How to Unlock MAC with Android Device Fingerprint

For this you will need Android version 6.0 or version 5.0 for Samsung devices, MacOS EI Capitan 10.11 or higher, Bluetooth connection between both devices.

Steps to Unlock Mac with Android Device Fingerprint:

  • First of all, download and install DroidID for Mac as well as DroidID for Android devices and then install them. After that, you must open the application on your Android device, you will see the code on the screen that you must write down.
  • now open up the DroidID app on Mac and type up the code you wrote down earlier in the step above. Below the code you just put your password which you use to login your Mac device and then click on the Connect button button.
  • The Mac device would show the ‘DroidID is ready’ which you must close. On the other hand, the Android device will also ask you to authenticate your fingerprint which is already registered on your device.   • Whenever your Mac screen goes to sleep or the screensaver starts, just open up the DroidID app on the Android device and then scan up your fingerprint using the fingerprint scanner. Mac won’t let you resist the lock screen and will automatically log you in.
  • The DroidID app does not work if you have locked your Mac by yourself.
  • To set DroidID to start automatically whenever your Mac restarts, go to System Preferences by clicking on the Apple logo in the menu bar and click on ‘User & Groups’.
  • Now navigate to the Login Items option and click on the + icon. Look for the DroidID.zip in the location where you downloaded it and click on the Add option. It defines up the application to start up every time you would restart your Mac!
