The strap itself is very nice. It’s much softer this time around and doesn’t collect dust and lint as quickly as others. Fitbit has also finally modified its dreaded proprietary strap mechanism: the Sense strap can now be removed by pressing down on a small latch, just like the strap on the Fitbit Charge 4. Once the strap locks into place, it will wobble slightly. If you don’t like the included sports strap, a variety of first- and third-party straps are available on Fitbit.com and Amazon.
The Versa 3 is similar to the Sense, but does not have EDA scanning or ECG functionality The Charge 5 can perform EDA scanning and ECG, but does not offer Bluetooth calling or voice assistant connectivity on the wrist The Sense has most of the features of the Versa 3 and Charge 5 combined and is the only Fitbit model to send stress notifications. You are notified when a stress event is detected and can respond with physical activity, breathing or meditation.
Fitbit Sense comes with its own charger that attaches to a USB port (sold separately) and secures magnetically to the back of the watch. The charger itself is included, but spare or replacement cords can be purchased for USD 19.95 on the company’s website. A full charge takes one to two hours and provides up to six days of battery life. However, if the GPS is left on, it is likely to need recharging after 12 hours.
The Sense skin temperature monitor, like the blood oxygen and EDA sensors, is intended to monitor overall health, but is not a primary indicator of medical conditions; like the SpO2 sensor, the Sense must be worn while sleeping to take measurements. Three consecutive nights are required to obtain a reference value. High and low skin temperatures can mean everything from the onset of illness or possible pregnancy, or that the room is warmer or cooler than the previous night.
One of the key features that sets Sense apart from competitors and other Fitbit devices is its ability to perform ECG scans quickly and provide a more detailed picture of your health. This scan can also alert you to potential signs of atrial fibrillation (Afib) – a serious condition that should be discussed with a medical professional. To use this feature, first activate the ECG widget in the phone app. Next, open the widget on your watch. You are then instructed to hold the corner of the watch and hold your hand and arm still for 30 seconds. The reading will then pop up directly in Sense. Please note that if the heart rate is below 50, the ECG scan cannot be measured and this feature is not useful.
