Why would you want to know how to Beat the Headless in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice? Because each of these tough, optional bosses drops a Spiritfall, which is an infinite use version of the sugars you use in the game to heal and improve Sekiro’s attributes (Ako, Gokan, Gachiin, Ungo, and Yashariku). FromSoft decided to add these monsters to Sekiro because the other mini-bosses weren’t enough. The Headless can be found in dark, lonely places. If you haven’t already come across them, they will definitely be a test of your nerves and combat skills.
Though, beating the headless is worth it, just like a lot of the other side content in Sekiro. Not only do they give good experience, but killing them is the only way to get Spiritfall Candies, which are like normal candies but can be used over and over again if you have spirit emblems. Spiritual battles aren’t easy, and two of the five boss fights in Sekiro Headless happen underwater. Even though those end up being a little easier because it gets rid of the smell they give off when they are on land. You will need the Mibu Breathing Technique to find three of them, though. Here are the step how to Beat the Headless in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
What are Headless?
In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the Headless are ghostly minibosses that can control time. You can find them in several places in the game, and they are one of the hardest enemies to beat. Headless can’t be hurt by normal damage. The only thing that can hurt them is Divine Confetti. They also give Sekiro the status effect Terror, which can kill him quickly if it is not fixed. To beat a Headless, you’ll need to use Divine Confetti and attack their weak spots. Their head and chest are their weak spots. You can also block their attacks with the Loaded Umbrella and get rid of the Terror status effect with the Pacifying Agent.
What items you should bring with you
If you want to fight the Headless mini-bosses, you should bring the following items with you if you can:
- Divine Confetti – This is essential for damaging the boss. You can buy an infinite supply from the merchant in the Dilapidated Temple after beating the True Corrupted Monk.
- Pacifying Agent – Use this to remove Terror status. (Can be acquired by exploring or purchased from Fujioka the Info Broker in Ashina Castle. This item can be farmed in Abandoned Dungeon.)
- Mottled Purple Gourd – Reduces Terror build-up.
- Ako’s Sugar/Ako’s Spiritfall – For extra attack and posture damage.
- Malcontent – To stun the boss three times per fight, allowing you to get free hits in.
There are five Headless bosses
Headless is a mini-boss that can be found in five different places around the world. Here is a general idea of where each one is:
- Ashina Outskirts – Near the Underbridge Valley Idol, inside a cave found after shimmying across a ledge up the cliff.
- Sunken Valley – Travel to the Under-Shrine Valley Sculptor’s Idol and turn around, past the three phantoms and into a cave. You need the Mibu Breathing Technique skill acquired from the Corrupted Monk (Illusion) boss fight to access the area with this Headless.
- Ashina Depths – Located in the Hidden Forest close to the Buddha Statue. It’s recommended to face this enemy after you’ve defeated the Mist Nobel so you can see better. Otherwise, you’ll have to deal with mist that hinders your vision.
- Ashina Castle – This fight is located in the lake, just before the Old Grave Sculptor’s Idol. Again, you need the Mibu Breathing Technique skill to engage in this fight.
- Fountainhead Palace – From the Flower Viewing Idol, head into the Great Carp’s lake to find this Headless fight.
How to Beat the Headless in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
- To beat a Headless, you have to block all of his attacks.
- The best way to beat a Headless is to use Divine Confetti, which throws them off balance a lot.
- If you hit him enough, you can even break the fog spell.
- Divine Confetti is hard to come by, so make sure to use them wisely.
- Kill the Headless normally until their first life bar is gone.
- Use Divine Confetti to kill their second life bar quickly.
- To kill a Headless, you need to know how it attacks.
- Surprise attack after a big, sweeping attack can be annoying.
- Try not to get stuck in a corner after the Headless sweeps, or it will be hard to escape its devastating rear attack.
- As long as you’re facing in the direction it’s coming from, it won’t be able to grab you.
- Jump away after it sweeps so you have some space and time to get your bearings and get ready.
- Have Pacifying Agents on hand or make sure to buy the Mottled Purple Gourd to stop terror from building up and also helps get rid of terror, a status ailment that probably killed you the first time you tried to do this all by yourself.
- You can buy these things from the shopkeeper near the Mibu Village Sculptor’s Idol.
Farming Strategies for Divine Confetti and Pacifying Agents
Divine Confetti Farming:
- The most efficient way to farm Divine Confetti is by purchasing it from vendors. In the early game, you can buy it from the Memorial Mob merchant found near the Ashina Outskirts Sculptor’s Idol for 300 Sen each. Later in the game, you can also buy it from other merchants like Pot Noble Harunaga in the Abandoned Dungeon.
- Another option is to find Divine Confetti scattered throughout the world. Some are hidden in various areas, so explore thoroughly. Notable locations include Senpou Temple, the Gun Fort, and Ashina Castle.
- Certain mini-bosses and bosses may also drop Divine Confetti upon defeat. For example, the Shichimen Warrior minibosses have a chance to drop it.
Pacifying Agent Farming:
- The most common way to obtain Pacifying Agents is by looting them from various enemies throughout the game. Certain enemy types, particularly those associated with terror-inflicting attacks, have a higher chance of dropping them.
- Some good farming spots for Pacifying Agents include the Senpou Temple area, specifically the Interior Ministry Ninjas found there, and the Mibu Village area where enemies like the Headless and Shichimen Warriors can be encountered.
- In the Fountainhead Palace, there are enemies called Okami Warriors that have a decent drop rate for Pacifying Agents.
- Additionally, you can purchase Pacifying Agents from various merchants, including the Memorial Mob near Ashina Outskirts and Pot Noble Harunaga.

Questions and Answers
Though, beating the headless is worth it, just like a lot of the other side content in Sekiro. Not only do they give good experience, but killing them is the only way to get Spiritfall Candies, which are like normal candies but can be used over and over again if you have spirit emblems.
One of the few enemies you can’t use Stealth Deathblow on is a Headless. If you block a headless’s sword swings four times in a row, it will disappear and come back behind you to try a dangerous grab attack that is easy to avoid and has harsh consequences.
Sekiro has a steep learning curve, so steep that many die-hard players think you don’t start getting the hang of how it works until about halfway through, but even then, you still need to be smart when fighting enemies.
