How to Add Ebooks to Kindle App From PC and Mobile – Guide
Have you ever tried to download a non-DRM Kindle e-book or PDF and try to read it in the Kindle app for Android? If so, you have probably encountered the issue of the eBook or PDF not opening or not appearing in the Kindle Reading App library. If you download a Kindle-compatible eBook with the Chrome browser on an Android device, for example. Everything you will get in the final is an annoying “cannot open file” message.
So if you go into the downloads folder using a file manager and tap the eBook, that won’t work either. If it’s a PDF, you’ll at least have the option to open it with the Kindle app, but the file isn’t added to the library list, so you can’t easily go back and access it again. To make side-loaded eBooks and PDFs work correctly with the Kindle Android app, you need to manually place the file in the proper location. You can load PDFs, Mobi and eBooks in Kindle format into the Kindle app. It’s easy, but not very self-explanatory if you haven’t done it before.
Furnishing format
Although Amazon no longer supports the Mobi format for new and updated eBooks (where you can customize fonts, etc.) in the Mobi format, existing eBooks in the Mobi format are still readable by Kindle. Attach the file to an email, send it to your Kindle email address (with any subject line and nothing in the body of the email), and it should show up on your Kindle soon. You can also drag and drop the file onto Kindle if you connect your device to your PC with a USB cable.
PDF format
Amazon can automatically convert PDFs to Kindle format, but you have two formatting options. If you want your Kindle to display every PDF page as a graphic, just email the .PDF file to your Kindle address without a subject line.
This will retain formatting and graphics, but the font size may be too small to read. If this type of formatting is OK, you can also drag and drop the file onto Kindle if you connect the device to the PC with a USB cable.
Your other option is to attach the PDF file to an email and make the subject line “convert” – just that word. Send it to your Kindle email address and your PDF will be converted to a Mobi file, where you can control font size and formatting. The graphics will also be there, but you will lose the original PDF layout.
EPUB format
EPUB is a common ebook format on the web, but Kindle can’t read it naively. All right; you can convert .epub files to Mobi files for Kindle to read.
The key is free software called Caliber. Available for Windows and Macs, it can reformat almost any type of eBook for most eBook readers, although breaking copy protection on books purchased from Amazon or some other stores is prohibited. when you define up the software, it asks for your e-book reader model and a pop-up suggests sending the books by email. Fill in your Kindle email address and the authorized email address with which you set up sending documents to your Kindle.
after defining up Caliber, click Add Books and select all the free eBook files you downloaded. They will appear in Caliber’s library. Now click on an entry in your Caliber library and choose Convert Books on the top bar.
In the upper right corner, make sure to set the output format to Mobi. Click OK and wait until the number of jobs in the lower right corner of the main screen goes from 1 to 0. Now select the title again and click Save to disk.
Choose the folder where you want to save it. This will create a subfolder with the author’s name. In Explorer or Finder, scan this folder until you find the Mobi file inside, which you can email to your Kindle or drag and drop onto it using a USB cable.
Also, keep in mind that text files, blog posts, Word documents, and more can be emailed to your Kindle. Just send them to your Kindle’s email address and enjoy.
