How to configure APN settings on an Android device – Guide
If you’re having trouble browsing the web on your Android phone about cellular data, your device may not have the correct APN settings. While the latest iPhones, Blackberries and Windows phones should automatically configure data settings, many other devices, including some Androids, do not and may even lose settings when changing countries. APN settings must be set to truphone.com and no other settings (password, etc.) are required to go online. For Android devices running Android v5.1 or higher, Truphone has created an app that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. With it, you can set the APN fully automatically or manually with a single tap.
Connecting devices to the Internet or sending/receiving multimedia messages via MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) on a cellular network requires APN (Access Point Name) configuration on these devices. The APN acts as a gateway between the cellular network and the Internet, MMS or any other network you want to connect to. It is configured with all the necessary parameters that allow a network operator to assign an IP address to a device and initiate the network connection. With Hexnode’s MDM solution, you can remotely deploy APN settings to your devices and avoid the hassle of having your users configure them manually.
Most people don’t need APN settings
Around Android 8.0, carriers started automatically sending an APN configuration file to their customers instead of requiring manual APN configuration. It works like this: after inserting your SIM card into your Android 8 or newer device, the carrier detects a new device on their network. After an unspecified period of time, the MVNO automatically sends you an APN file containing your service settings. You can simply tap that file in the notification shade and it will automatically install your APN settings.
Unfortunately, if that file never arrives, you’ll have to manually configure your APN settings. The most likely source of the problem is that your phone is not within range of a cell tower. Here are some possible fixes:

Configuring your APN settings
To configure APN settings, go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. Under Hotspot Names, you can configure your device to work on your specific MVNO. If you have not received a configuration file for MMS and data, you will need to perform an internet search for your provider and your APN settings. After retrieving the settings, you will enter them manually.
