How to Disable Pocket for Firefox on PC and Phone – Guide
Pocket, formerly known as Read Later, is a free service and application that lets you save content and view it later. Pocket is integrated with the Firefox browser and appears as a small button next to the address bar. Pocket allows you to save articles, web pages or videos in your desktop browser and open them later using the Pocket app on your phone, even when you are offline.
Pocket is a useful tool, but not everyone is a fan of the built-in feature. In fact, when Mozilla first added Pocket to Firefox 38 in 2015, several users complained. Their main objection was that Mozilla had incorporated a non-essential closed-source tool into an open-source browser. Prior to Firefox 38, Pocket was available as a third-party add-on. So, if you don’t like it, you can completely remove it from your browser whenever you like. Since the current feature is built into the web browser, you can disable it but not delete it completely from Firefox.
In November 2017, Mozilla doubled its integration with Pocket by introducing “Recommended by Pocket” as part of the new Firefox Quantum experience. Whenever you open a new tab, Pocket recommends a list of articles based on the most popular articles saved that day. Recommended by Pocket works independently of the “Save in Pocket” function, so disabling one function does not disable the other. Needless to say, users who weren’t fans of the first Pocket integration enjoyed the recommendations of the Pocket articles even less.
