How to download your entire Google Photos album on PC – Guide

Want to download all your photos and videos from Google Photos? It’s not as easy as it sounds: while uploading media to Google’s photo backup platform is pretty straightforward, transferring all your cloud snapshots to a hard drive can take a little more work. Why should you download all your photos from Google? While the cloud is a safe and affordable way to store your snapshots, backup up your library is not a bad idea. If you’ve already been blocked from accessing your Google Account, you can still access your photos. And when you’re traveling with limited Internet service, offline copies can be more reliable than syncing to the cloud.

How to download multiple photos from Google Photos

This is the simpler task of the two, and the process is the same whether you’re downloading photos or videos from Google Photos.

  • First go to Google Photos and click the checkmark in the top left corner of the photos or videos you want to download.
  • Hold down the Shift key and click further down the photo roll if you want to select multiple photos at once.
  • Click the three dots in the upper right corner and click Download (or use Shift + D).
  • Your download should start.

    Downloading all your photos from Google Drive is much less simple. If you’ve tried to download all your images using the above method, you’ve noticed that there’s no way to batch download everything directly from Google Phones (we don’t know why either). Instead, you’ll have to go to Google Takeout.

    Google Takeout lets you download all of your Google account data – whether it’s your Chrome history, Google Play activity, Google Play Books, Hangouts history, or Google Photos.

  • Go to Google Takeout and click Uncheck All – this ensures you’re not downloading your entire Google history.
  • Scroll down the list and select Google Photos.
  • Click “All Included Photo Albums” to download only specific Google Photos albums.
  • If you haven’t split all your photos into albums (because who has time for that?), Google will automatically split them by year.
  • When you are satisfied with your selections, click OK.
  • Scroll to the bottom of all services and select Next step.
  • In the export settings below, you can choose how often you want to download all of your Google Photo content.
  • You can also specify if you want final zipped file exported to be emailed to you or sent to another cloud storage option. We will use an email link in this case.
  • At this stage, you can also select the size you want each exported zip file to be. The default setting is 2GB and the maximum size is 50GB. Keep in mind that exports larger than 2GB will be compressed into zip64 files. Google advises that this may not be compatible with older systems, so you may need additional file compression software to decompress your exports.
  • Click Create Export when you’re done.
  • Your files will now start exporting. You may need to wait a few minutes, depending on the size of your entire collection. You can also choose to unsubscribe at this time.
  • Once the export is complete, you can download your photos by clicking Show Exports.
  • Now you can download each exported zip folder to your hard drive. Note: the download link expires after one week.
  • If you’ve opted for an email notification, you can also download exports directly from your Gmail inbox.
  • Please also note that you should receive a security authorization email from Google to confirm that you are the one requesting the export of your photos and not someone else’s. You may need to authorize it before downloading your photos and videos.
