Emails are queued in the Outbox folder but are never sent. As it turned out, in some cases the emails cannot even be deleted or archived and therefore are just stuck in the Outbox folder.
Check attachment size
If you’ve attached a file to your email, make sure it’s within the allowable limit, which is currently 25 MB.
Clear your Gmail cache
Open Chrome Settings. You can do this by simply opening a new tab and entering the following – chrome: // settings / in the URL field and press ‘Enter’.
Then choose the ‘Privacy and Security’ link in the left sidebar.
Choose ‘Cookies and other website data’.
Scroll down to ‘See all cookies and site data’.
Open the page and scroll down to find the entry ‘mail.google.com’.
When viewed, select the trash icon next to it.
Make sure Gmail is not set to Offline
If you’ve set your Gmail to offline mode, it can send your email to your Gmail outbox. So check whether Offline mode is enabled or not. For this,
Choose Gmail ‘Settings’ > ‘See All Settings’ and choose the ‘Offline’ tab.
Then, on the page that opens, check whether the box next to ‘Enable offline email’ is checked or not. If it is checked, you will need to uncheck the box and see if the issue is resolved.
Close applications running in the background
