How to Fix Microsoft Teams Con­nec­tion Issues – Guide

Microsoft Teams was launched in 2017 as a unified communication and collaboration platform to help companies and organizations complete tasks. Microsoft has built a single interface for Teams, Office 365 and Skype for Business leveraging the company’s current Office software experience. However, as with any software, things don’t always go as planned. Here are some simple procedures that should help you resolve Microsoft Teams issues.

Try connecting through the web client

It can be very frustrating when you can’t get into a meeting and you’re out of time. As long as you are sure you have Internet connectivity, you can connect to Microsoft Teams using the web client instead of the desktop client. To do this, follow these steps:

Open the meeting invitation.

Right-click the Join Microsoft Teams Meeting link in the body of the invitation.

Select Copy Hyperlink.

Paste the hyperlink into a browser and press Enter.

A popup browser will ask if you want to open Microsoft Teams using the application. Press Cancel.

Select the option to continue in this browser. Microsoft Teams must open as the web application.

check your network

Most of the network service-related errors that come up in Microsoft Teams have to do with connectivity issues related to your own system and not the application itself. Running the Internet Connection Troubleshooter can fix most of these issues.

Open the Settings app, go to Update & Security, select Troubleshoot and select Internet Connections.

Allow the troubleshooter to run and apply any recommended changes.

Restart the system.

Open Microsoft Teams, sign in and try the meeting again.

Allow Microsoft Teams through Windows Firewall

Many antivirus software firewalls do not allow Microsoft Teams to connect to remote servers. Without these connections, you cannot be part of a Microsoft Teams meeting. Various antivirus tools have different ways of dealing with this issue, but today we are focusing on Windows Defender’s built-in antivirus.

Open File Explorer and type the following in the location bar. Tap Enter.

Click Allow an application or feature through Windows Defender Firewall in the left column.

Click Change settings (you will need admin rights to do this).

Scroll through the list of applications and find Microsoft Teams. Will show up as teams.exe and not as Microsoft Teams. If you don’t see teams.exe, look for Skype Business.

Enable the app for public and private networks and click OK.

Restart your computer and, with luck, you’ll be able to join Team Microsoft meetings.

Update Microsoft Teams

Problems with Microsoft Teams are sometimes specific to a particular version of the application. To be more precise, this error goes away if you upgrade to Microsoft Teams version 1808. To solve the problem, check the version or just update the app:

Open Microsoft Teams.

Click on your profile icon.

Click Check for Updates and let Microsoft Teams check and install any new updates.
