How to Get Speed Limit Warnings in Google Maps – Guide
Google Maps speed limit feature shows users the speed limit of the road they are on and warns them if they are overtaking. Google Maps also shows users how fast they are driving, but advises users to check their speed on the car’s speedometer. The in-app speedometer is for informational purposes only and users should not rely solely on it. The speed limit is displayed in the lower left corner of the map when navigating, just above the bar that shows the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) along with other information.
Google Maps first made the on-screen speedometer available to users in 2019. At the time, it was available to select users in Asia, Europe, South America, the UK, and the US. Little by little, the on-screen speedometer was made available to more users all over the world. In addition, Google also shows the speed limit of the area where the user is located. However, the speed limit feature is not currently available in all regions.
If the speed limit function is available in your area, you can activate it as follows. The Google Maps speed limit is displayed in the lower left corner of the map, above the bar that shows travel time, estimated time of arrival, remaining kilometers, and options to close navigation and view the entire route.
Google Maps: See the speed limit
There are times when the last thing you have time for is checking what the speed limit is in an area. Sometimes the speed limit is clearly shown, but not in other areas. So it’s always a good idea to have this feature activated, just in case. You can activate speed limit feature but opening Google Maps and then tapping on your profile picture and going to Settings.
Once you’re in the navigation settings, you’ll see several options to customize Google Maps for you. But first, let’s see where you can activate the speed limit features. In the driving options, the Speed limits option will be below the monthly driving statistics. If you don’t see it there, it means it’s not yet available in your area.
As long as you are there, you can also make other changes. You can adjust the guidance volume and change the language as well. Other options include Play voice over Bluetooth, Play voice during phone calls, Play audio cues and Play sound. This last option will allow you to hear what the driving directions will sound like. If you’re not satisfied with what you hear, you can still make more changes.
