How to Set iPhone to “Do Not Disturb While Driving” – Guide
While notifications are a great method to ensure you never miss an alert, it’s always a good idea to put your phone down while driving. Fortunately, there are apps for iOS and Android that encourage people to drive safely. Current iPhone software includes a feature known as ‘Do Not Disturb While Driving’, which is enabled by default in iOS 11. Not only does the mode limit and mute alerts, but it also responds to contacts who message you while you drive, letting them know you’re driving. Also, once turned off, all your alerts will be waiting for you.
When Do Not Disturb While Driving is on, a bar appears at the top of the screen to indicate that all incoming alerts are muted. We hope that never happens, but things do, and text messages and notifications must come in sometimes whether you’re driving or not. If it’s an emergency, Apple allows the sender of the message to bypass the Do Not Disturb feature by responding with ‘urgent’ for an emergency. The notice passes when the sender types urgent; however, if this happens, it’s critical that you ask Siri to read the message for you.
through sensors
Do not disturb while driving feature activates when iPhone detects steering movement. (If you’re a passenger, tap the Do Not Disturb notification on the lock screen and tap I’m not driving.)
By Bluetooth
When iPhone connects to the car’s Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb While Driving is turned on — if you have selected the Bluetooth When Connected to Car option. You can also activate with CarPlay (if your car supports it).
Via the iPhone Control Center
After adding Do Not Disturb While Driving to your Control Center for quick access, you can swipe the screen and tap the car icon to activate the feature on (before getting into the car) or off (after driving). If you have an iPhone X or later, swipe in from the top right corner of the screen. If you have an iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
