Acer Predator X32 FP review 2024: a good Mini-LED monitor

The Acer Predator X32 FP looks like something from eight years ago, if you, like me, remember what Acer made back then. There was a time when Acer’s Predator line tried to look like tanks by having metal on them. The X32 FP takes that idea and adds a tread-like pattern down the neck of the stand and thick, strong plastics that cross along the back to make an X.

It’s a tough look, but it doesn’t stand up to close inspection. We don’t like how silver stickers are used around the puck-like part near the base of the stand. It doesn’t look or feel like it should be in this price range. To be clear, the X32 FP feels fine and even sturdy compared to most panels. HDR Image Quality

The Acer Predator X32 FP satisfies the requirements of the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standard. We measured a maximum sustained brightness of 946 nits, which is excellent and makes this monitor a decent pick for viewing HDR content on a computer. Hotspots, such as the midday sun, look like they are bursting through the screen. Clarity is also high in the vicinity of screen highlights.

It was a touch dissatisfying that HDR content did not trigger a shift in the monitor‘s contrast ratio. The HDR contrast ratio here isn’t nearly as high as it was on the AOC Agon Pro AG274QZM (4194:1). I found that dark scenes didn’t have the same sense of depth and spookiness on the X32 FP. However, context is needed for this. The X32 FP wasn’t much better than competing Mini-LED displays, but it was noticeably superior to IPS LCDs without Mini-LED backlighting.

Final Words

There are very few monitors that can compete with the 32-inch 4K Predator X32 FP in terms of pure versatility. The Mini-LED lighting provides outstanding HDR performance, but the panel may benefit from a few minor enhancements to fully justify the price.
