Acer Swift X 16 review 2024: a good, solid laptop

The Acer Swift line has always made some of the best laptops for productivity, like the Swift 5, which is a good all-arounder, and the Swift 3 OLED, which is surprisingly affordable. The Acer Swift X 16 is probably the most powerful of the Swift laptops. The latest Swift X 16 was made to be bigger and more powerful than its numerical predecessors.

It also breaks with tradition by using a new Intel graphics card, the Intel Arc A370M, instead of integrated graphics or a small Nvidia laptop GPU. Intel’s Arc graphics technology is still pretty new. After 24 years away from the standalone GPU market, Intel is back to compete with AMD and Nvidia. This Swift X has a fast 12th-generation ‘Alder Lake’ Intel laptop processor and an A370M graphics card.

Acer Swift X 16: Design

The name of the Acer Swift X 16 gives away one of its best features: the 16-inch 2.5K display has a 16:10 aspect ratio and great maximum brightness, which makes it great for editing work and reading papers. The border is very small, and the fact that it can show 100 sRGB colors makes it a good choice for art projects.

We used the Swift X 16 as my daily work laptop for more than a week, and it never gave me any eye strain. Since we were hospitalized for cancer treatment in 2021, we sometimes get migraines and eye strain, so we sometimes wear glasses that filter out blue light when working with very bright screens. Acer Swift X 16: Display

The 16:10 aspect ratio screen is worth taking care of because it has 3,840 by 2,400 pixels. The high number of pixels makes for a strong resolution that makes it almost certain that even the smallest details will be clear. The OLED screen has a rating of DisplayHDR True Black 500, which means it can reach a peak brightness of more than 500 nits and can show deep blacks and bright colors. Gamers will be disappointed that the screen’s refresh rate is limited to 60Hz, but they’ll be even more upset by the AMD Radeon graphics that are built in. Still, it’s a nice-looking monitor.

Keyboard, touchpad and webcam

The size of the 15 x 15 mm (0.59 x 0.59 in) keys on a 6-row chiclet keyboard is slightly smaller. The keystroke is short, but the pressure point provides a strong feedback when combined with a well-balanced resistance. You can also use it without any trouble to type longer texts.

The keyboard does have some give under focused pressure. This is clear when you type because the Enter and Hash keys make a little noise. The Acer keyboard layout has the usual double-occupancies, a small number block, and smaller Arrow Up and Arrow Down keys.

Acer Swift X 16: Performance

The Acer Swift X 16 is a laptop that packs a lot of power into a small package. It runs on an AMD Ryzen processor and is very fast and responsive for many jobs. You can use the Swift X 16 to work on demanding professional programs, edit movies, or even play games. It can do all of these things with ease. With a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GPU, the Swift X 16 improves graphics performance, making games run more smoothly and jobs that use a lot of graphics happen faster.

The laptop has a lot of RAM, which makes it easy to switch between apps while multitasking. The solid-state drive (SSD) in the Swift X 16 makes it quick to boot up and get to files and apps. This makes sure that your system stays fast and quick even when you’re working with big files or running software that uses a lot of resources.

Acer Swift X 16: Battery life

When we reduced the screen brightness to 150 nits and kept browsing the web, the Swift X’s battery lasted for 7 hours and 5 minutes. What a disappointing outcome. Over 10 hours of use was achieved on the Dell XPS 15 OLED, and over 11 hours and 25 minutes on the Acer Swift 5.

It’s understandable that this machine is less expensive than Dell’s, given that it has a larger screen, but the price gap is still noticeable. By turning down the lights and lowering my standards,we were able to get through even the most tedious workdays with relative ease.

Price and availability

However, the price begins at the same $999, and we are able to work on it (it is so nice not to be dependent on a certain operating system). As a result, we tucked away my dependable Air for a week and relied solely on my Swift X as my primary means of productivity instead. So with that said, here are some of my thoughts.

Final Words

The Acer Swift X 16 is a good laptop for the price it costs. The screen and sound system are both good, and the build quality and keys are the best. There is also a good number of ports, and the speed is good overall.

The problem is that, at least in this case, the new Intel GPU isn’t all that amazing. I’m sure Acer saved money by putting in an A370M instead of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050, and the Swift X 16’s price wouldn’t be too high if it didn’t have a separate GPU, but it doesn’t add enough to make a good laptop into a great one.
