How to Turn on Plan for Ultimate Performance Power in Windows 10 PC – Guide
With the new update, Microsoft has given a “Maximum Performance” power scheme for the April 10, 2018 release of Windows. It builds on the high performance power scheme, but tries to magnify every little performance detail possible. Here it is how to enable it.
What is the Ultimate Performance Power Plan?
The Ultimate Performance power plan is designed to give high-powered systems an extra boost (think workstations and servers) by optimizing the high-performance power plan. It is aimed at reducing or eliminating microlatencies associated with fine-grained power management techniques. A microlatency is just the slight delay between when the operating system recognizes that a piece of hardware needs more power and when it supplies that power. While this may only be a fraction of a second, it can make a difference.
The Ultimate Performance plan eliminates hardware research to see if it needs more power and allows the hardware to consume all the power it needs. Also, any energy savings features are disabled to further improve performance. For this reason, machines that run on battery do not have this option by default, as it can consume more energy and drain the battery much faster.
While you might be thinking this would be great for gaming platforms, don’t get your hopes up up.
The Ultimate Performance plan improves speed on systems where hardware continually moves in and out of an idle state. But when you’re running a game, all your hardware already works together to fill the environment around you. The only real improvement may come at initial startup, and you may only see an increase of a few frames per second. However, if you’re running video editing or 3D design software that is occasionally putting heavy loads on your hardware, you might see a bigger improvement.
There is an important caveat here. Enabling this plan will increase the amount of energy your system consumes, so if you plan to use this profile on your laptop, make sure you are connected at all times.
