How To Download and Install Google Fonts on Windows 11/10 – Guide

It offers a range of freeware, open-source, high-quality fonts that anyone can use on their website or in their own application under an open license. Many websites use them. How to Install fonts on Windows 11 and Windows 10

There are a few ways to install fonts on Windows 11 and Windows 10. We’ll detail three different methods for this. If one doesn’t work for you, skip to the next one.

use source file

The easiest and most straightforward way is to use the font source file. You may have noticed that the file we downloaded arrived in a zipped ZIP folder. So, before starting to install the font, we will need to extract it. Follow the steps below to extract and install the various fonts on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Right click on the zipped font file and choose ‘Extract All’. If you are using Winrar like me, choose ‘Extract Files’.

Choose the destination where you want your fonts folder to be. For simplicity, I’m using my Desktop. Press Extract or OK if using Windows Extractor or Winrar.

Your desktop will now have a folder with the font name as the title. Double click on it to open it.

Depending on which font you downloaded, you will now see single or multiple files. Going through the names, you can see that these are different styles from the same font. If you just want a style, you can install it on your Windows 11 PC.

Right click on the source file and choose Install or Install for all users. The latter will be installed for all user accounts on your PC.

The font installation will start and finish in just a few seconds and you’re done. You can choose to repeat the steps above to install all the different fonts on Windows 11.

Install from Control Panel

If the first method is not right for you, Control Panel is another way to install fonts in Windows 11. Follow the steps below to do this:

Open the Windows Start menu and type Control Panel in the search bar. Click on the result as it appears.

The Control Panel will offer a list of items for you to choose from. Find and click on Fonts in the list. However, if you chose the category option, you can go your way by clicking Appearance and Personalization > Fonts.

An entire directory of preloaded fonts on Windows 11 will now appear. This is where we’ll add our new font.

Open the previously downloaded font folder and choose the font you want to install. Then just drag and drop from that folder to the font grid you see above.

The chosen font will be installed automatically in seconds and that’s it.

Use the font settings app

Definitely the laziest method for Windows users among you, the Font Settings app is a modified version of the drag and drop method we used above. Users who want to install fonts on Windows 11 can also take advantage of this. Follow the steps below to do this:

Open the Windows Start menu and type Font in the search bar. Click on the result as it appears.

The following window will open up showing the various fonts installed in Windows 11. You’ll also see a rectangular box titled ‘Drag and drop to install’, which is what we’ll use.

Open the downloaded fonts folder and choose the font you want to install. Then simply drag it from that folder to the rectangular drag-and-drop box you see.

The font will take a few seconds to install and you’re done! You can find the font in any text editor of your choice. Just search for it and start using it.

How to download fonts

It’s no surprise that most online sources are paid and require you to shell out money to use them. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t good free fonts. If you don’t know where or how to find fonts to download for your Windows, follow the steps below to do this. We will be using Google Fonts for this as the site offers many free fonts.

With your browser open, visit Google Fonts.

You’ll find an entire directory of various free sources. As you can see, fonts are available in many styles and languages. You can even search for a specific source using the search bar above. I’m partial to Roboto myself, and since it’s not in my system, that’s what I’ll be choosing.

Click on the font you chose once to open its page. You will be taken to another page showing the font styles. You can enter your own phrase to see how it will look.

When you’re satisfied that this is your source, click Download Family button at the top right corner. This will download all styles from that font.

Choose the save path and press Save. Your font has been downloaded.
