There is a very small but much requested change to the way notifications work in the new version of the Android OS. If you have Android 11 or later, its phone now you’ll better organize conversations in apps like your texting app, WhatsApp, Slack and others.

It’s a very small change, but not useful: all conversations can now be seen in their own section, separate from other notifications. That way they won’t be confused by your other notifications.

You can use default settings for Android 11 conversation priority as per your requirements. You can choose between three priority levels:

Default: In the default option, the notification will appear in the order in which it occurred. You will only hear a notification if your preferences are set to do so.

Priority: As the name suggests, messages will always appear at the top of conversation notifications.

Silent: Messages will arrive silently and appear at the bottom of the Chat notification. Messages will have no notification sound.

Follow these steps to control this configuration

Step 1: Swipe down to see notifications. You’ll have to swipe a conversation partially to the left until you notice the Settings icon. It will be shaped like a gear.

Step 2: Now tap the Settings icon and select the priority you want to select. It can be Priority, Default and Silent, then tap ‘Apply’.

You can also customize notifications about specific conversations. For example, you can choose whether conversations should appear as bubbles over other apps, change the notification sound, and you can also instruct your phone if you don’t want any conversations to appear in the conversation notification.

Step 1: Go to Settings option and tap ‘Apps & notifications’.

Step 2: Tap on ‘Conversations’. A list of conversations you’ve recently modified will appear on the screen.

Step 3: Tap the conversation you want to customize. You can also change many aspects of the conversation. You can change the message priority at the top of the page. It will determine how it will appear in the Chat notification.

Step 4: Select ‘All Bubble Settings’ to control whether the conversation can bubble. If you don’t want it to appear in the chat notification, tap ‘Not a chat’.

Step 5: You can also use the ‘Advanced’ option for additional options such as notification sound and if you wish to have your conversation appear on the lock screen.
