How to Configure and Install Asterisk VoIP Server on Debian 11|10 – Guide
Asterisk is a free, open-source framework for building communication applications. Asterisk turns an ordinary computer into a VoIP communications server. Asterisk powers IP PBX systems, VoIP gateways, conference servers and is primarily used by large and small businesses, call centers, carriers and governments around the world. Today we are going to install Asterisk on Debian. All necessary packages will be installed via apt, but Asterisk will be installed from source code. We will see how to install Asterisk on Debian
There are several versions of Asterisk available on their website, but the latest is 13 with LTS (Long Term Support). So we’ll have to download it from the source and install it on this tutorial.
Step by step guide
All commands must be run as user root, either logging in directly as root or using sudo su -.
Start with a basic installation of Debian 11. All necessary packages will be installed using the following commands.
Recommended operating system update as a prerequisite
Update the operating system to the current one.
apt-get updateapt-get upgrade
Install all necessary packages
apt install -y apache2 mariadb-server mariadb-client php php-curl php-cli php-pdo php-mysql php-pear php-gd php-mbstring php-intl php-bcmath curl sox mpg123 lame ffmpeg sqlite3 git unixodbc a sudo dirm odbc-mariadb php-ldap nodejs npm pkg-config libicu-dev
