Press Win+R keys to open the Run dialog box.

Type “C:WindowsSoftware DistributionDownload” and press OK.

File Explorer opens – delete all files/folders in this directory (in case you cannot delete the files, boot Windows in ‘safe mode’ and try to delete the files).

Restart your PC and try running Windows Update again – it will work.

Windows Store cannot install or update apps

Unable to install or update metro apps via Windows Store after upgrading my system to Windows 10. The new OS is more or less useless to me in this way. The problem arises due to excessive cache files that clutter up your system causing various issues including this one. This issue can be resolved by clearing these cached files, which can be done using these steps:

Cannot find ‘Open With’ in Windows 10

Find the ‘Open With’ option in the context menu after right-clicking any file in Windows 10. I’m not sure if it disappeared recently or wasn’t there right after upgrading to Windows 10, but I would like to get ‘Open With’ back. This issue is an infrequent case but most likely it is due to some missing or corrupted system files or settings after upgrading to Windows 10. The issue can be fixed by following these steps:

Open Notepad.

Type the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellexContextMenuHandlersOpenwith]@=”{09799AFB-AD67-11d1-ABCD-00C04FC30936}”

Save the file by going to File -> Save As (not Save), and type “Openwith.reg” as the filename and choose ‘All Files’ and click OK.

Close Notepad and double-click this file to open it.

Press Yes in the confirmation dialog and try using ‘Open With’ now – it will work.

Unable to automatically log in using Microsoft account

Unable to use ‘auto login’ feature using (new) Microsoft account. I really wish I didn’t have to type the password every time to log in to Windows 10. Automatic login using Microsoft account comes disabled in Windows 10 and to enable this feature, Follow these steps:

Press Win+R keys to open the Run dialog box.

Type “netplwiz” and press OK.

In the opened window, click on the account for which you want to enable ‘automatic login’.

Uncheck (or uncheck) the ‘Users must enter a username and password to use this computer’ option and click OK.

Enter the password for that account twice in the new dialog and click OK to enable automatic login and try to login automatically now – it will work.

Overuse of Windows 10 Mobile Data

I realized that the mooring mobile data for Windows 10 via WiFi Hotspot depletes the mobile data faster than ever. WiFi Sense encrypts and shares the passwords of your WiFi networks with your specific contact lists so they can automatically connect to your wireless networks. While useful, it risks privacy and to disable WiFi Sense, follow the steps below:

Connect to wired connection (WiFi Hotspot).

Open the new settings and then ‘Network and Internet’.

Choose Wi-Fi on the left and click ‘Manage Wi-Fi Settings’.

Uncheck ‘Connect to suggested open hotspots’ and ‘Connect to networks shared by my contacts’ to disable WiFi Sense – it’s off.
