How to install Google Play Store on Windows 11 – Guide

On Windows 11, you can now install the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) to run Android apps. The problem is that officially you can only install apps from the custom version of the Amazon Appstore, which currently only contains about 50 apps.

You can install Android apps on Windows 11 as a sideload, but you can’t use apps that require Google Play Services, such as Gmail and Google Maps. However, an Italian UX design student (ADeltaX on Twitter) found a way to install the Google Play Store app to bring virtually any Android app to Windows 11. It’s a time-consuming process that might not work right away, but once it starts work, you can install all your favorite android apps.

Google Play Store installation process on Windows 11 requires you to set up various tools that run various Linux commands, Command Prompt and PowerShell. The instructions below contain everything you need to complete this task. If something isn’t working correctly, you’ve probably done something wrong. If that’s the case, start using the instructions until it works.

How to install Google Play Store on Windows 11

  • Go to Settings> Privacy & Security> For Developers
  • In ‘Developer Mode’ click the toggle button to enable it, then click ‘Yes’ to confirm
  • Download a new version of the Windows subsystem for Android via the following link. If you are using an ARM-based device such as Surface Pro X, use this link
  • Once complete, go to the downloads folder in File Explorer and double click on the file known as ‘WSA-Patched’ to unzip it.
  • In the search bar at the top of the start menu, type ‘powershell’
  • In the options on the right, click on ‘Run as Administrator’. Click ‘Yes’ to confirm that you allow the app to make changes
  • In the PowerShell window that appears, paste ‘Add-AppxPackage -Register C: WSA-Patched AppxManifest.xml’, but replace the section ‘C: WSA-Patched ‘ with the location of the unzipped file in File Explorer (click on the address bar and then copy and paste). In the example below, it is ‘Add-AppxPackage -Register C: Users anyro Downloads WSA-Patched WSA-Patched AppxManifest.xml’
  • It might not look like anything happened, but you should now see ‘Windows Subsystem for Android’ in the Recommended section of the Start menu. Click to launch it
  • In the window that appears, click on ‘Files’ to start the WSA
  • After a few seconds you should see a pop-up saying ‘Windows Defender Firewall has blocked some features of this app’. Click ‘Allow Access’ to continue
  • You should now see the Play Store and Amazon Appstore in the Recommended section of the Start menu. However, in your current form, you cannot login
  • To fix this, download ADBKit from the following link. It’s a very small file so it will only take a few seconds
  • Go to the File Explorer downloads folder again and double click on the ‘ADBKit’ file
  • Double click on the file named ‘adb’ and choose ‘Extract All’ and then ‘Extract’ to confirm
  • Back to Windows subsystem settings, click the toggle button to activate ‘developer mode’. You should now see a message on the side saying ‘ADB can be connected to 127.0.0.1:58526’
  • Launch the Play Store app and keep it open. In File Explorer, locate and open the ‘ADBKit’ folder that you have already unzipped. Right click anywhere and choose ‘Open in Windows Terminal’
  • Run the command ‘. Adb.exe connect 127.0.0.1:58526’
  • Even if you get an error message, this should still have completed successfully. Run the command ‘. adb.exe devices’ to confirm – If you see ‘127.0.0.1:58526’ in ‘List of connected devices’, this worked
  • Run the command ‘. adb.exe shell’
  • Run the ‘su’ command. You should see a message saying ‘You are now root’
  • Run the command ‘setenforce 0’. The PowerShell window should now look like the one below
  • Go to the Play Store window and click on ‘Log in’. You should now be directed to login with your Google email and password
  • Once connected, you can install apps as you would on any Android phone
