I discovered how to install Windows 10 on PCs that could hardly boot it. In any case, Windows 11 couldn’t actually be installed on my seventh generation Core i7 PC. Like a bunch of “I’m not right for you anymore?!” second, solving the problem was as basic as activating features.

The original test for me was installing Windows 11 on much more experienced PCs, including a second generation PC with a legacy BIOS. Fortunately, after several weeks of testing and arranging information on 2 of my PCs twice (accidentally), each of the 3 of my PCs is now running on Windows 11.

Install Windows 11 on hardware not compatible with bootable USB

If you are going to use the ISO file to perform a clean install, you will need to create bootable media using a third-party tool like Rufus or with Command Prompt to start the setup process with a USB flash drive.

Furthermore, you must also make sure that the device can boot from USB, which means you will have to change the UEFI settings. Since these settings are different on most computers, you will need to check the manufacturer’s support website for more specific details.

To install Windows 11 on an unsupported PC, follow these steps:

Start PC not compatible with Windows 11 USB flash drive.

Press any key to continue.

Use the keyboard shortcut Shift + F10 to open the Command Prompt.

Type the following command and press Enter:

Browse the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM Setup

Right-click the Setup key (folder), select New and then the Key option.

Name the key LabConfig and press Enter.

After completing the steps, Windows 11 will install in an unsupported state, which means you may or may not get security or driver updates.

Upgrade to Windows 11 on hardware not compatible with ISO file

Alternatively, you can also perform an in-place upgrade of Windows 11 with an ISO file on a device that does not meet the system requirements. However, you will first need to run a script to bypass the TPM, secure boot, and processor check.

Bypass Windows 11 Requirement Checks

To bypass the minimum system requirements to install Windows 11, use these steps:

Open the MediaCreationTool.bat page on GitHub.

Click on the Download button button at the top right corner.

Save the Zip file to your computer.

Browse to the folder with the files.

Click Extract All button.

Click on the Browse button button.

Select the extraction location.

Click Select Folder button.

Click Extract button.

Open the available folder (if applicable).

Right-click the Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd file and select the Run as administrator option.

After completing the steps, you can mount an ISO file to start installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. If the script doesn’t seem to be working, restart your computer and try running it a few more times.

Upgrade to Windows 11 using ISO file

To upgrade to an incompatible Windows 11 computer with an ISO file, use these steps:

Open the Microsoft Support website.

In the “Download Windows 11 (ISO) disk image” section, select the Windows 11 option.

Click on the Download button button.

Select the installation language.

Click Confirm button.

Click on the Download button button to save the Windows 11 ISO file on the device.

Right-click on the ISO file, select the Open With sub-menu and choose the Windows Explorer option.

Click on the mounted unit in the left navigation pane.

Double-click the installation file to start the Windows 11 upgrade process.

(Optional) Click the Change how Windows Setup downloads updates option.

Select the Not Now option.

Click Next button.

Click on accept button agree to the terms.

Click Install button to update while keeping your files and apps.

If you want to start from scratch with a clean install of Windows 11, click the Change what to keep option, select the Nothing option, click the Next button, then click the Install button button.

After completing the steps, setup will continue to update the laptop or desktop computer for the new operating system version. However, Windows 11 will run in an unsupported state that does not guarantee updates of any kind, nor will you be able to receive support from Microsoft.

Upgrade to Windows 11 on hardware not supported by Microsoft Registry Workaround

Although not supported, Microsoft has published a workaround to work around the Windows 11 requirements and continue the setup process by editing the registry. However, the computer still needs a device with at least TPM 1.2 and UEFI firmware with Secure Boot enabled.

Edit the registry to bypass official checks

To bypass the minimum system requirements to upgrade to Windows 11, use these steps:

Open Start.

Search for regedit and click on the top result to open Registry Editor.

Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM Setup MoSetup

Right-click on the MoSetup key (folder), select the New submenu and choose the DWORD Value (32-bit) option.

Name the key AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU and press Enter.

Double-click on the newly created key and set its value from 0 to 1.

After completing the steps, you can mount an ISO file or connect USB media to start installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.
