How to Run Windows 11 on a Mac – Guide

Windows 11 is the up and the era of Windows OS, the most popular desktop operating systems on the planet. We’re looking forward to seeing that Windows 11 has been really great and brings lots of new ones features, for example, running Android apps from PC.

In this post, we’ll share four distinct ways to handle assistance when running a Windows 11 example on a Mac PC, which is more problematic than doing the same on a PC. Before making everything work, please make sure your hardware meets the negligible prerequisites for running Windows 11.

How to Install Windows 11 on Mac [Intel]

Almost all Intel-based Mac systems with Boot Camp assistance should be able to install Windows 11 easily. Here is a list of Mac systems that have Boot Camp Assistant.

    Your system should have between 64GB to 128GB of storage space, just like the Windows 11 ISO. Also, make sure your Mac is running the latest version of the operating system.

    Even though the Insider Preview version for Windows 11 has been released, you won’t find it on Microsoft’s official website. You’ll have to search for the ISO on Twitter or just run a Google search. The internal version of Windows 11 reaches 22000.51 and weighs around 4.45 GB. Build version may vary for upcoming Windows 11 updates.

    Check secure boot settings

    The main requirement of Windows 11 is that the device must have TPM and Secure Boot enabled. So make sure the startup security is set to Full security. To check which settings Startup Security is enabled, just press the Command and R keys as soon as you see the Apple logo when you turn on the system. Also, be sure to enable Allow booting from external media.

    Install Windows 11 on Intel Mac

  • Create a Windows partition with Boot Camp Assistant.
  • Open up Boot Camp Assistant by going to Applications > Utilities.
  • Click Continue button.
  • Now it will ask you to search the Windows 11 ISO file.
  • After selecting the ISO file, you will be asked to create a partition. You can enter your storage size here. Must be more than 64GB.
  • Keep in mind that you will not be able to make changes to the storage size after installing Windows 11.

    • Once you’ve allocated the storage size for the partition, Boot Camp starts formatting the partition. Your Mac will now restart. Enter your user password to start installing Windows 11 on the Mac. Boot Camp will now ask you to select the partition you created earlier.

    Now the installation of Windows 11 will begin. This is where you will see changes in the configuration UI when prompted to fill in details such as system region, additional keyboard layouts, privacy settings and the purpose of the system to be used. It will also prompt you to create or log in with a Microsoft account, as it will be required if you want to use Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage.

  • When the Windows 11 installation is complete, the system will restart. And when it restarts, it will ask you to choose the boot disk you want to boot from. Select Boot Camp disk to boot into Windows 11. You can also use the Boot Camp control panel to select the primary boot method.
  • And there it is! You have now installed Windows 11 on your Mac, which is based on Intel. But what if you have a new Mac that runs on an Apple M1 chip. Well, in that case, we have another method for you. So take a look at the guide below.

    • How to Install Windows 11 on M1 Mac [Apple Silicon M1]

    Apple’s newly released Mac systems now come with the Apple Silicon M1 internal chip. Now what that means is that you no longer have Boot Camp Assistant. However, you will be using a third-party software called Parallels Desktop. At the moment, Parallels doesn’t officially support Windows 11 and is already working to bring support to Windows 11. But you can still get Windows 11 on the M1 Mac with a few tweaks.

    An M1 system installed with the latest updates, Parallels Desktop, 22GB of free storage. And the Windows 10 Insider Preview (ARM) ISO file.

    Download Windows 10 ISO (Insider Preview)

    You read that right ‘Windows 10’. Even though the Insider Preview build for Windows 11 has been released and you can get the Windows 11 ISO by hand, but as Parallels doesn’t officially support it, let’s install the Windows 10 ISO first. You need to register for the Insider Preview on the official Microsoft website and then download the Windows 10 Insider preview ISO file (ARM version). Since Macs with Apple Silicon chips support the ARM build, you need to download the same version. Follow the instructions in the attached video.

    It’s like virtual machine software that you can run on any Mac system to try and explore any other operating system. The software, however, costs $9.99, but you can always make use of the trial version. You can download and install Parallel Desktop here.

    Configure Parallels Desktop

    To start the Windows 11 installation process, follow these steps.

  • Open the Parallels Desktop application on your mac system.
  • A bang-up will appear asking you to install an ARM version of the operating system.
  • Click Continue and select the downloaded Windows 10 Insider Preview ISO.
  • You will now be asked to give your virtual machine a name. You can also simply call it Windows 11 or Windows 10.
  • In addition, you can select the processor cores, the amount of RAM and the storage on which Windows 11 will run.
  • Once you’ve finished customizing the configuration, just click the Create button. button.
  • When you are satisfied with your setup, click on the padlock. button and click Continue to start installing Windows 10.

  • As you know, this is a workaround, you need to make some registry changes. Also, in later steps, it may be necessary to bypass the TPM check with the steps provided.
  • After installing Windows 10 Insider Preview, open the registry editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE>
  • Microsoft> WindowsSelfHost> UI> Selection.
  • Now change the UIBranch value to Dev.
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > WindowsSelfHost > Applicability and change the BranchName value to Dev.
  • After changing the values, restart Windows 10. Once Windows 10 starts up up, go to Windows Update Settings > Check for Updates.
  • It will now detect Windows 11 Insider Preview, which is currently the latest version available.
  • Now if you get a pop-up related to TPM, here you must do the trick to bypass the TPM check. Do not close the pop-up.
  • Open File Explorer and look for the AppraiserRes.dll file. And when it shows the file, go to the location of that file. Now right click on the dll file and select the Cut option.
  • Now go back to the pop-up page.up and click continue button (Can be in Chinese). Now it will take a few seconds and it will go away.
  • On the Windows Update page, click Fix issues button Continue. Now it will start downloading the update. Meanwhile, create a new folder on your desktop and paste the AppraiserRes dll file.
  • When pasting the file, you will see a new pop up with the message Almost done. If you get the same error, try repeating the steps again.
  • close the pop-up Almost done and the download will continue without any problems. Now when it passes the percentage when you got error popup, cut the dll file and paste in its original location.
  • The Windows 11 update will now be downloaded and installed on your M1 Mac.
  • When prompted to reset, click Restart Now button and wait. And once you reboot, you’ll find Windows 11 running on your M1 Mac.

    • That’s it, now you can use Windows 11 on your Mac M1 without any problems.
