How to Tag Someone on Facebook – Guide
Facebook basically depends on our connections with other people – and our ability to explode up your notifications by tagging them in funny videos, memes and statuses. Whether you’re checking in to your favorite restaurant with a best friend, or you want to write a long thank-you to your family and closest friends, there are several ways to tag your friends on Facebook. Tagging is an important part of any social media service as it allows you to notify others that you have mentioned them. This helps increase the reach of the post, may make it easier to find in the future, and provides a link that people can click to view that friend’s page.
Tagging on status updates and comments
When posting a status update, you can tag your friends by typing the @ symbol followed by their name. As you type, a small window appears and automatically updates to show the best match for the text you typed. Click on someone’s name (or use the Arrow and Enter keys) and they will appear highlighted in blue in your post. This means you have successfully tagged them.
In addition to your own friends, you can also tag other people and Facebook pages. This includes friends of friends, business pages and the like. The same method also works for tagging other people in Facebook comments. Be aware that if your post’s privacy is set to Friends, tagging someone makes your post visible to their friends as well.
mention who you were with
Facebook allows you to add various elements to your posts, including sentiments, location checks and the like. One of them lets you mention that you’ve been with certain friends.
To use it, click on the Tag Friends option, which looks like a blue silhouette of a person with a tag next to it. this brings up a search box where you can enter a friend’s name. Use the box to select one or more of your friends here. Be aware that, unlike the above, you can only tag your own friends using this method as you are claiming you were with them.
Click Done when you’re satisfied and you’ll see a new one [Your name] is with [friend’s name] line at the top of your status. Type your post normally and people will see this line to explain who you were with. As above, this allows friends of your friends to see the post.
While tagging people makes sense by mentioning them in what their status says, this method is most useful for letting people know that their friends were actually with you for something.
photo tagging
Tagging friends in photos adds their names to a Com line in the photo description. It also allows other people to easily identify them by hovering over their face in the photo.
Also, photos that you’ve been tagged in appear on the Photos tab with you in the Photos section of your timeline. Like the two options above, tagging someone allows your friends to see the photo as well. To tag an existing photo, open it – the image can be yours or someone else’s. Click the Tag icon in the upper-right corner, then click a face in the image. Below the box, type a friend’s name; friends of friends and pages also work.
Depending on the privacy settings of the tagged person and the photo owner, they may have to manually approve the tag. And you may not see the tagging option on other people’s photos if they’ve turned off the option to allow other people to tag their images.
If you want to add tags to your own photo when uploading it, click the Edit button button in the upper left corner of the image when the post is open. Click Tag Photo on the left side and follow the same steps to click on faces and enter names.
