As customers spend more and more time online and on their phones, unplugging can be incredibly difficult. But it’s becoming increasingly important. Zen Mode was co-created with the OnePlus Community in 2019 to allow OnePlus users to step away from their handset and focus on other chores without being distracted by the next notification, ping, or ring. We spoke with OnePlus’ Robin Wang, product owner for software features like Zen Mode, to learn more about what Zen Mode is, why it’s important, and what’s coming up in the near future.
We all know how much we adore smartphones. But there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, and it is critical to take a break from your daily driver’s screen. In recent years, we’ve seen software that aids in this, such as Android’s Digital Wellbeing and iPhone’s Screen Time. Zen Mode is unique in that it does not track the amount of time you spend staring at your device. Instead, Zen Mode provides you with 20 minutes of peace and quiet free from the constant flood of notifications.
So it’s essentially a branded Do Not Disturb mode? No, not exactly. While Do Not Disturb prevents notifications from annoying you, it does not prevent you from being distracted by returning to social networking apps every 5 minutes. When you activate Zen Mode, your phone enters into a 20-minute lockdown. You’ll be able to make and receive phone calls, as well as utilize the camera app, but that’s it. For the next 20 minutes, you will be unable to access any other app, feature, or service. Except for calls, all notifications will be muted, leaving you fully undisturbed until Zen Mode finishes.
Steps to use Zen Mode on OnePlus
What does OnePlus Zen Mode
When you activate Zen Mode, your phone enters a kind of deep freeze for a set length of time. You cannot access apps, send text messages, alter settings, or conduct most other smartphone tasks during this period. You will only be able to make and receive emergency phone calls, as well as capture images. However, once you’ve taken a shot, you can’t access your entire gallery to edit or share it on social media. Furthermore, while you can accept calls from anyone, you can only make emergency calls. Once you enable the feature, there is no turning it off: even resetting your phone would not do. Because the default active time is 20 minutes, you must wait at least 20 minutes before your phone returns to regular operation. As a result, utilize this feature with caution!
The Zen Mode app can also inform you if you use your phone for an extended period of time without pausing. The reminder window is set at two hours by default, but you can alter it to any time you choose. With the Zen Mode 2.0 upgrade, you can now tailor your peace of mind to your preferences. The app now has a redesigned user interface that allows you to select your own theme. However, the time constraints have not altered, therefore the majority of the app continues to function normally.
Features of Zen Mode
Updated UI
OnePlus has completely redesigned Zen Mode. The feature now has five themes: Ocean, Space, Grassland, Sunrise, and Meditation. Themes are based on these notions, as the name implies, and you’ll notice them in the background during your Zen mode session.
Increased Time Duration Settings
OnePlus formerly offered 20 minutes as the default time duration for Zen Mode, with the option to increase it to 30, 40, or 60 minutes. Zen Mode adds new length options of 1 minute, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes to the list. On Zen Mode, you can adjust the length to 1 minute, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, or 120 minutes. To do so, go to Zen Mode’s home page and tap on the timer, then select the duration that works best for you.
White Noise Tones
To add white noise tones to Zen Mode 2.0, OnePlus teamed with the creators of sleep sounds and meditation app Tide. This collaboration resulted in five new theme sounds for Zen Mode 2.0.1.0: Jellyfishes, Light-Years, Country Mornings, Meditation, and Sunrise. These sounds are associated with the app’s five themes. You may enable the sound by tapping on the music symbol in the app’s top right corner. If you don’t want music playing in the background, you can turn it off, even if you’re in Zen mode. All you have to do to turn off ambient sound is tap on the music sign on the screen. You can tap it again later if you want to re-enable the sound.
Group Zen Mode
Finally, we offer Group Zen mode, which allows you to put your phone down alongside your friends and family. To access group Zen mode, hit the multi-user icon on the main page. You may either start your own room or join one that others have started. You can then customize the session’s duration and invite guests by sharing your room code. Although OnePlus makes bold claims that any smartphone user can join the group session, this is not currently the reality. It could be in the works, and OnePlus may include it in the future. For the time being, you’re limited to other OnePlus phones.
Final Words
Smartphone addiction is a major problem, and OxygenOS includes a feature that allows you to disconnect from your phone. Zen Mode instantly disables all alerts and app access on your phone, with the function intended to promote mindfulness and reduce screen addiction. This is how to activate Zen Mode on your OnePlus. We hope our article on “How to Use Zen Mode on OnePlus” will surely help you to do so. Visit their official website for more information.
