In this article we will show you how to Delete an Address From Outlook Autocomplete List. Autocomplete can save you a lot of time typing, but if you send an email to the wrong person or to the right person at the wrong address, it can be very embarrassing. The good news is that removing addresses from Outlook’s autocomplete list is easy.
Faculty and staff who use Outlook to send and receive email can get rid of autocomplete suggestions that are wrong or no longer valid. Outlook keeps track of all the addresses you type in the To, Cc, and Bcc fields. When you start to type in these fields, it gives you suggestions based on what you have typed before.
This can be a problem if the address is wrong or out of date. To avoid sending the message to the wrong person or an address where it can’t be delivered, you should remove it from the cache. Even though AutoComplete is helpful, there are times when you need to clear the cache of these email addresses.
Ways to Delete an Address From Outlook Autocomplete List
Remove a Name or Email Address From the Outlook Autocomplete List
Outlook remembers every address you put in the To, Cc, and Bcc fields of an email message. Then, when you type the first few letters of a name or email address, Outlook will suggest contacts that match. If Outlook remembers typos or old contacts that you don’t want to show up in the autocomplete list, delete those entries.
- Create a new email message.
- In the To field, enter the name or address you want to remove. As you enter the contact information, the autocomplete list displays the available matches.
- Press the Down Arrow key to highlight the entry you want to delete from the list.
- Select Delete (the X to the right of the contact name). Or, press the Delete key.
