How to Download and Install Remix OS on PC – Guide
Remix OS is the definition of the best of both worlds. This OS is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and works like a desktop OS just like Windows or Mac, with the ability to use and resize tabs, associated cut, copy and paste shortcuts, full physical keyboard support and mouse , including right-clicks. Basically, it’s a complete product with the virtues of Android.
Now one might ask why in a world where we already have Windows, Mac or even Linux Ubuntu, switch to Remix OS. It’s simple – it works like any Android smartphone that supports Google Play Store apps. Remix OS runs all Play Store software and apps.
USB method
For this method to work, you will be using an external USB. It must be a USB 3.0 with at least 8GB of free space.
Dual Boot Method
We need to create a small partition to install the Remix OS. I will use an application called the Mini-Tool Partition Wizard. You can download it from here, after downloading it, install the application and access it, click on any partition that has some free space (16GB or more), click on Split partition in the left menu and click on use slider to set the new partition to 16GB, click OK, then click Apply in the upper left corner and restart if necessary. Upon restarting, you will see a new partition that we will use in My Computer.
Next you will need to determine if your BIOS mode is Legacy or UEFI, go to the start menu and look for “run”, type msinfo32 and click on System Summary and then look for the BIOS Mode option. You’ll find it’s UEFI or Legacy, note that’s why we’ll need it later.
Now download Remix OS here (based on BIOS type), Android installer here for Legacy mode and here for UEFI mode, Android ISO here and 7zip software here.
Install the 7zip program and use it to extract the Remix OS ISO file, run the Android installer .exe file and you will be asked to choose the Android image, destination drive and data size. Choose Android ISO as image (not Remix OS) and new partition as destination drive and 8GB as data size and click Install. Wait for the installation in a few minutes and click OK and open the partition.
On the partition access system, delete the system.sfs file and go back to the folder where you extracted the ISO Remix OS file, copy kernel, system.img, initrd.img and ramdisk.img and paste them into the operating system folder Android ( on partition), when pasting will ask you to Replace or Ignore, choose Replace.
Now download this file and place it on your Desktop, right click on it and press Properties and follow these instructions carefully.
In the search, type cmd in the menu and run it as administrator. You will see a command port where you will need to enter them in order.
