iPhone 15 vs iPhone 15 Plus

At Apple’s event in 2023, I had the opportunity to explore the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. These models continue Apple’s tradition of offering base versions, Plus variants, and Pro options within their smartphone lineup. While they may not claim the top spot, I found them to be impressive.

What stood out to me was how these models inherited features from the previous year’s Pro range, such as support for Dynamic Islands. It’s clear that Apple is committed to enhancing their core offerings with premium components.

For users like me, who seek a high-quality smartphone experience without the hefty price tag of the Pro models, the iPhone 15 series presents an appealing choice. It strikes a great balance between performance and features, making it a compelling option in the smartphone market.

iPhone 15 vs iPhone 15 plus: Design and build

iphone 15 vs iphone 15 plus

In my personal experience using the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, I’ve noticed some practical differences between the two models, keeping in mind that personal preferences play a role in aesthetics. The most noticeable distinctions lie in their dimensions, weights, and battery capacities. If you prefer a more portable device, the iPhone 15, with its 6.1-inch display, is a suitable choice. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Plus, featuring a larger 6.7-inch screen, offers a more expansive viewing experience.

It’s worth noting that the iPhone 15 Plus weighs about 1 ounce more than the iPhone 15, which might be a factor to consider. Both models have glass bodies, making it essential to protect them from scratches and drops with a good case, although this may slightly increase the overall weight and size. Apple claims that all color variants of these phones utilize a unique process to embed color within the glass back. Both models have aluminum frames with a consistent matte finish. On the back, you’ll find the two cameras, and there’s a notch on the front for the Dynamic Island and front-facing camera, a design feature consistent with their predecessors.

iPhone 15 vs iPhone 15 plus: Display

Based on my usage, the iPhone 15 sports a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and 800 nits of brightness (peaking at 1,600 nits in HDR mode and 2,000 nits in outdoor conditions). Similarly, the iPhone 15 Plus features a 6.7-inch OLED screen with the same 60Hz refresh rate, differing only in screen size.

Some users might find it disappointing that neither device supports ProMotion or an Always On display mode. Interestingly, these two features are interconnected, meaning you can’t have one without the other. Notably, the Always On mode relies on ProMotion technology. On a positive note, Apple has eliminated the notch, and the Dynamic Island feature effectively handles the pill-shaped cutout on both the standard iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus, enhancing the overall visual experience.

iPhone 15 vs iPhone 15 plus: Camera

In my personal experience with both smartphones, it’s worth noting that they share a similar camera setup, which has been a consistent feature in these devices. Both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus sport an identical camera system. On the rear, you’ll find a 48-megapixel sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, along with an ultrawide 12-megapixel sensor boasting an f/2.4 aperture. These cameras are equipped with Smart HDR 5 technology and excel in capturing exceptional low-light shots and stunning portraits.

Moreover, the powerful chipsets in these smartphones enhance the overall image quality, ensuring that your photos look even better. Both models also feature a sensor with four pixels, offering two times the telephoto capabilities of their standard resolution. This allows for zooming at 0.5x, 1x, and 2x, providing versatile photography options. Additionally, you can record high-quality 4K video at various frame rates, including 24, 25, 30, and 60 frames per second.

iPhone 15 vs iPhone 15 plus: Performance and software

Based on my personal experience using the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, both devices run smoothly with iOS 17, thanks to their identical internals. They’re powered by the A16 Bionic chip, which features a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core neural engine. This chip, while no longer the latest, still performs admirably. In my testing last year, it proved to be quite capable, particularly in image processing, where it excels at tasks like adjusting focus.

One noteworthy addition this year is the ability to transform a standard photo into a portrait shot and adjust focus between subjects after taking the picture, using the power of the chips and machine learning. In terms of performance, both models are evenly matched, ensuring a smooth user experience without significant slowdowns. The primary difference between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, apart from screen size, is the battery. The Plus variant boasts a slightly larger battery, providing up to 26 hours of video playback compared to the iPhone 15’s 20 hours. Additionally, the shift to USB-C for charging is a welcome change from Apple’s previous Lightning connection.

iPhone 15 vs iPhone 15 plus: Battery Life

I recently acquired the iPhone 15 Plus and was impressed with its battery performance compared to the iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 Plus has a 4,383mAh battery, whereas the iPhone 15 has 3,349mAh. This battery size disparity affects daily usage, especially for smartphone lover like me.I find the iPhone 15 Plus outlasts the iPhone 15 in battery life. Apple estimates that the iPhone 15 Plus can play video for 26 hours on a charge, while the iPhone 15 can play for 20.

While these estimations are helpful, your battery life will depend on how you use your phone, the apps you run in the background, and your network circumstances. The iPhone 15 Plus is best for people who use their phones all day and don’t want to charge. Power users will love its large battery and 26 hours of movie playback. If you’re searching for a smaller, cheaper option, the iPhone 15 has decent battery performance. It may not equal the iPhone 15 Plus’s endurance, but it’s a good choice for individuals who want a cheap Apple gadget with portability and battery life.

For the iPhone 15, the prices start at $799 for the 128GB model, and they go up to $1,099 for the 512GB version. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Plus begins at $899 for 128GB of storage and can go as high as $1,199 for the 512GB variant.

What’s interesting is that these launch prices mirror those of the previous iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus when they were first introduced. And here’s a money-saving tip: if you trade in an eligible device, you can potentially get a discount of up to $800.

You have the flexibility to purchase the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus directly from Apple, but if you prefer a version optimized for your specific cellular provider, that option is available as well.

Which is right for you?

It is evident that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are quite comparable to one another after looking at all of the features that are included in each device. The only real differences between the two are that the latter has a larger display and longer battery life, but it is also slightly heavier than the former. In the United States, the prices start at $799 and $899, respectively.

Choose the iPhone 15 if you want to save some money, if you want an option that is lighter and more compact, and if you don’t mind that it has somewhat less battery life. if money is not an issue for you, or if you simply desire a larger capacity battery, then the iPhone 15 Plus is the way to go. You may watch videos nonstop for up to 26 hours, and the screen size has been increased to 6.7 inches. Just keep in mind that it is little more cumbersome and heavier than usual.
