Guide: Downloading Torrent on Chromebook – Guide
You read that right, starting with Chromebooks made in 2017 or later, it’s now possible to run Android apps on Chrome OS devices, including most, if not all, modern Chromebooks made in the last 2 years or so. You can check out a complete list of Chromebooks that support installing and running Android apps. Today we are featuring one of the most requested apps.
This is a huge step forward and will only get more people to actually use Chromebooks. As I mentioned before, most new Chromebooks can now run Android mobile apps, which luckily on Chromebooks contain and run what is perhaps the most popular BitTorrent client of the last decade, the always stable and reliable uTorrent. I use uTorrent every week on my Windows 10 and Linux PC laptop so it just makes sense for me to test it on my ChromeOS devices.
Torrent Apps for Chromebook
The four most popular torrent clients for ChromeOS are Bitport.io, Put.io, JSTorrent or Bitford. The last two, JSTorrent and Bitford, are Chrome extensions written in Java script, meaning they run entirely on your computer and don’t communicate with a server. The best program for downloading torrents on a Chromebook is probably JSTorrent.
BitTorrent client apps aren’t the only way to download torrents with a Chromebook, as cloud-based services make torrenting possible without installing any software on your device. The way most of these sites work is by facilitating torrent downloads on their servers, as opposed to you downloading files directly locally with apps like Bitford and JS Torrent.
Download Torrent Program for Chromebook
The best torrent program for Chromebook is JSTorrent. JSTorrent is not free, but it is the original and arguably the best BitTorrent client available across the Chrome Web Store. JSTorrent is a Chrome extension that actually works on a Chromebook and not through a web server. JSTorrent is by far the leader in the BitTorrent game on Chrome OS.
The alternatives, however, will be primarily cloud-based. Instead of downloading torrents locally, you will add them to an online account that will handle the extravagant transfers and then simply stream / download the entire file directly from that service. There are many of these services, but the two that are on my radar now include:
How to Download Torrents on a Chromebook
Using JSTorrent to download a torrent to your Chromebook is easy. Once you’ve found the link to a torrent you want to download, just open JSTorrent and paste it into the search bar. Alternatively, you can download a torrent file directly to your machine and open it using JSTorrent, which will start the download process.
The new and improved JSTorrent is a BitTorrent client for Chrome that downloads torrent files with ease. It can download torrents directly to Downloads folder and can handle large files (multi-gigabyte files) with ease. It also works well on inferior ARM Chromebooks.
