How to Remove Hyperlinks from Google Docs – Guide
When you’re working on something with Google Docs, you might want to remove the hyperlinks. Sometimes hyperlinks are created when you copy and paste text from the web. Regardless of how the hyperlinks got to your Google Docs, we will discuss how to remove them completely and avoid adding hyperlinked text in the future. Removing a hyperlink from Google Docs is easy. It’s so easy to avoid adding text with a hyperlink. However, if you want to remove multiple hyperlinks, that’s another story, but not impossible. Here are some methods you can do.
The first way to remove hyperlinks is to prevent them from passing in the first place. Prevent links from entering your file using Paste without formatting feature to remove any formatting from the embedded URL as it is pasted into your document. Once you’ve selected text that contains one or two hyperlinks, launch a browser, go to the Google Docs homepage, and open a new document. Removing hyperlinks from Google Docs is quite easy, although removing multiple links is more difficult than it should be. Here’s what you need to do.
Removing individual hyperlinks in Google Docs
Google Docs does not allow you to remove multiple hyperlinks at once. If you want to remove more than one hyperlink, the first approach you can try is to delete them one by one.
To get started, open the Google Docs document that contains the hyperlinks you want to remove and click on one of the hyperlinks. This will open a dialog – click on the Remove link icon, which is the farthest to the right. Your link will now be removed. You can repeat the same method for any other links in your document.
Removing hyperlinks from pasted text in Google Docs
If you are pasting text from another source into Google Docs, you can remove all hyperlinks at once. Start by copying the test from the source document or page. When the text content (including hyperlinks) is on the clipboard, open the Google Docs document.
On the menu bar, click Edit > Paste without formatting to paste the text without formatting or additional content, removing any hyperlinks inserted in the process. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + V to do this (or Cmd + Shift + V on macOS).
Removing Multiple Hyperlinks in Google Docs
There is also another way to remove multiple hyperlinks from a Google Docs document. Using the same method for pasting without formatting, you can first highlight existing text in your document, then copy and paste it over it. If you have text with multiple hyperlinks, highlight all text that contains these links in your document to get started.
In the menu bar, press Edit > Copy. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C (or Cmd + C on macOS). With the text still highlighted, press Edit > Paste without formatting from the menu bar. You can also use the shortcut Ctrl-Shift-V (or Cmd-Shift-V on macOS) to do this.
Your text will now be replaced with the same text, but with the hyperlinks removed. A word of warning, however. This method will also remove any other formatting your text may have, such as bold, italics, fonts, and font sizes. If you have a lot of formatting that you don’t want to lose, it might be easier to remove each hyperlink by clicking the link and pressing the Unlink button button.
Disabling automatic hyperlinks in Google Docs
By default, when you type a URL into Google Docs, it automatically converts it to a hyperlink. If you don’t want hyperlinks in your document you can disable this feature. To get started, open Google Docs and press Tools > Preferences. On the General tab, uncheck the Automatically detect links option. You can now type web links or email addresses without Google Docs automatically converting them to hyperlinks. You can still manually add them using the Insert link button in the format bar, however.
Formatting a Google Docs Document
If you want to print your document, removing hyperlinks from a Google Docs document makes sense. However, there are many other ways to format your document.
You may prefer to export Google Docs to Microsoft Word and use Office to edit your documents or publish a Google Docs document as a web page. Both methods rely on different formatting styles – for web pages, hyperlinks should help you direct your readers to useful content elsewhere.
