Collecting feedback from your peers and team members is really important.
Polls and polls are the easiest way to gather information from your colleagues in a team collaboration, chat, meeting or live event. Creating a poll or survey in Office 365 is easy thanks to the Microsoft Forms app. This type of survey can be used in SharePoint or Microsoft Teams. But when you work as a team, you probably want to create quick and easy surveys.
Poll in a channel discussion
Adding a poll to your channel discussion will give your students the opportunity to voice their opinion and participate fully, while you can get some insight into their progress. There are many different types of questions you can ask, such as: check their understanding, break the ice, or recap questions! To add a poll to your channel, click on the three dots in the toolbar below the location to start a new post. Then click on the Forms app. If you don’t see it, just search for “Forms” in the search bar.
The next step is to create your poll. Add your question and the different options students can choose from. You can add more options by clicking the plus sign. Once that’s done, there are a few different customizations. First, toggle the bar next to “Multiple Answers” if there is more than one correct answer. To share the results once the question is answered, you can keep this box checked. If you uncheck, you can share the results after everyone submits. The last option here is to keep the students anonymous or not.
When everything is correct, click Save. Before publishing it to the channel, Teams will provide a preview of the poll for you to check out. If you need to make changes, you can go ahead and Edit. Otherwise, if everything is fine, click Submit.
You will immediately be able to see the poll posted on your channel. If you choose to share the results immediately, there will be two posts, one for the question and one for the results. You and your students can now choose an answer and submit it!
Polling during a live online class
In order to poll your students during class so you can get some instant feedback, there is a little setup that needs to be done first. You must create at least one poll before class starts. You can always add more before or during the class.
poll set Up Before the start of class
start opening up your calendar and clicking on a meeting you’ve already created. If you don’t have a class set up still, you can go ahead and create one. Just make sure you’ve invited students to join your class, otherwise you won’t have access to the poll. feature. To add a poll, click the plus sign on the top toolbar and click Forms and Save. This will add a Polls tab to your meeting’s top toolbar. Now you can go ahead and create a new poll by adding a question and all the answer options.
Similar to adding a poll to your channel, you have some customization options. Decide if you want multiple responses enabled, to automatically share responses, keep responses anonymous, and/or have a co-author. Then click Save.
You will see that the poll now appears as a draft. With the drop down arrow next to Launch button, you can Edit or Delete the poll. The poll can now be published before the meeting starts, or it can be released at the right time in your class. If you choose to start the poll before class starts, students will be able to respond in the Teams Chat tab.
Start the poll during class
click on launch button in the poll you want to open. a pop-up will appear on the screen for you to send a reply.
On the student side, they will have a notification in their chat. They can submit their response and view the results if that feature has been turned on.
Close the poll and see the results
When all responses are within or after a time limit of your choice, you can close the poll. In the side search menu, next to View Results button on the poll you want to close, click the drop-down arrow. There is the option to Close, Export Results or Delete the poll.
I recommend closing the poll and exporting the results so you have all the data accessible. The file will download as an Excel file to your desktop. You can open the file and view the data at your convenience. Additionally, you can view search results directly in Teams.
If you didn’t export the results during the meeting, you can come back to view and export your Teams meeting voting results at any time. Go to that specific class meeting and click the Poll tab on the top toolbar. Now, you will see the poll closed, and the button to export the results. You won’t have to stress about data loss!
